hope this thread dowsnt offend anyone but...

I was watching a show on TV the other night, its like a 30 minute sitcom, not sure of the name but its directed by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.
Anyway, the moral of the show (as there usually is one with these kind of programs) was the destructive effect of using the word 'nigga'. Basically the kid in the show says the word 'nigga' to his friend and theres uproar but the kid has no idea what it means...bla...bla
Basically they were trying to show how destructive the word was and how degrading it was to black people

the point is, right at the end of the show they showed 6 pictures one by one, like a slide show of various products over the last century that used the term 'nigger'

1. "1930's" > Nigger Polish (product)

2. "1940's" > Nigger Head Wax (product)

3. "1950's" > cant remember exactly but it was some kind of product that used the term "nigger"

4. 1980's > NWA - Niggaz 4 Life

5. 1990's > 2Pac "Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z.

6. 1990's > Jay-Z Nigga What Nigga Who

To me this was like a direct criticism of these artists, as if somehow they were ignorant for using thhat term in there products title
And then i remembered will smith has criticised rap artists for using profanitys in their lyrics so is he jumping back on that bandwagon again

i like will smith a lot, i like his music, i love his movies, and i like how he carries himself as a person, but in a way he seems kinda hypocritical on this subject. he has been in numerous movies where he curses just as much as a rap album [bad boys, etc] and said "nigga" and "nigger" in movies also [ali is the only one to come to mind right now" but of course he will always say that he is "in character" when saying these words. still, he is saying these words from a script that tells him to say it, so he makes money. he's still using the same language, for the same purpose of making money. it may not be in songs, but he's still saying it.

he can claim to be "in character" but i think when rapper's are performing, they are also "in character" just as will is, in his movie. nobody believes 50 cent is out shootin people, or that t.i. is really sellin drugs to this day, he really needs to calm down on the holier than thou attitude when it comes to this.

i do not believe he was disrespecting those Artist mentioned.

if the show was produced by Will and Jada Pinkett.
there is no way Jada would have ever disrespected tupac..

her history with tupac is strong. Both Will and Jada have donated plenty of money to the Amaru Foundation.

Will Smith should shut the fuck up.
He was entertaining in the early 90s but his opinion means nothing.

if his opinion means nothing, then why are you talking about it? the fact is we're all entitled to our own opinions, but no one says you have to listen to them.

What I'm saying is that his opinion won't change anything.
Will is a "clown" and he's always been working on his image.

Scientologist... what? Will became a scientologist?

yeah, he became butt buddies with tom cruise and therefore contracted the disease known as Scientologyosis, or at least has been in contact with it and is exposed to it.

I think I Am Legend was a metaphor for me having to find a cure for the zombies (the Scientologists, that is). And that cure is not seeing their movies. I will start that after Hancock, though.
