Why did Biggie call Tupac 'Duke'?


Was it a coined term/ is it American slang for 'Dude' / or some kind of title associated with gangs?

I was flicking through a book called 'A Thug Life' earlier, and on page 58 (or therabouts) there's a picture of Pac - taken at a meeting about Aids, in 1996 - wearing a basketball shirt, that has 'DUKE' in big letters on the front.

Weather it's connected to this, I don't know. Just something I noticed, never seen the pic before.

lol no. duke is a college and has a consistently good basketball team.

When Biggie mentions "Duke" in the Life After Death booklet he is talking about his mother isnt he ? e.g "Mom Duke".

That's what I said. I'm not familiar with NY-slang, so like Hellrazor said it could be his dad. But it could be Pac 2. At the time he was cruisin through Cali and was acting like there were no troubles. When this was written Pac was probably gone for months. So it could be his way of saying: it's all good
