I never imagined myself being a person who could get irritated by reading text from other people over the internet. I had to re evaluate that sentiment after seeing Riaz and Rahim frequently pop up on my screen. The fact that Rahim now mods the 2pac section is a complete and utter joke.
Rahim moderating doesnt mean that you have to read any more of his posts, I dont see how being irritated by his posts has anything to do with the way he closes and moderates threads as the two have nothing to do with one another.
I never reached 1,000 posts in my time here, I was never really one for post counts but its clear by the number of times it has been raised by other members since they’ve been lost is that a lot of people did value them. What irritates me that the very people who then turn around and say “Who cares about a post count?” are those who had theirs reinstated.
Trying to lure people to pay $10 to get them back is weak. Some people here have been contributing since 2001, they deserved better than that and its not surprising most have gone.
The $10 for getting post counts back was not a way to get money. The posts were deleted from the database when it was hacked AGES ago, so the post count did not reflect the actual number of posts and it was fucking things up. When the forum was reset the post counts began to reflect the actual amount of user posts in the database. Setting them back and not fucking things up requires going through the mysql database which takes time and is annoying to do. If you REAAAALLY need it back you can fork out $10 bucks, if you feel its not worth $10 (which it is not), then hopefully users will see post counts are not worth much and move on with their lives, especially since this is now the accurate post count.
I know things like that exist to try to cover the costs of running this place, I completely understand its not a free world. However I donated $100 of cash that I worked for and never even got a thank you? Don’t get me wrong I never sought recognition, I did that out of love for this place, but shit if someone paid me $100 for nothing I’d certainly show a little appreciation.
Sure, all you had to do was
ask.
Allowing the website to post The Sessions is dirtying the very community that once made this site popular. If stuff that I paid $130 for gets sanctioned for download its not just my own moral compass that is going to point elsewhere. Is it any wonder that some people with intelligence and integrity like Dante left?
No body was allowed to post The Sessions, all links were removed. Dante left because he was no longer a moderator here and because he felt the other site would help him reach his core demographic of 2Pac bootleg customers.
No @streethop.com email was given to recruited news writers. I never asked for shit, nor was much delivered. No biggie, sounds like they don’t work anyway.
Actually, forwarding emails were provided to those who expressed interest in them and asked me for them.
Changing the name of the Street Hop section to The Streets sucks, it stinks of generic hip hop forum.
The site is called StreetHop, having a separate forum by the same name was a bit confusing and lame in my opinion as that forum
is a generic hip hop forum and not a forum about the whole website.
The primary content of ‘The Streets’ and the news topics damages the level of discussion. I’m not here to hate on the mainstream, each to their own, but it is clearly the focus here. The downside with that is that it attracts brainless thirteen year olds, and I don’t really find their incorrectly spelt sentences too stimulating. The threads made by people who know what they’re talking about, imo, 7 Syns, Roaches, Chronic, Linx, ImmortalTech, Rizzle/Preach are painfully slept on.
The threads actually promoted some decent discussions but I do agree they cluttered things up so they were removed a couple weeks ago.
No offence but the Traz stuff is really gay. Ignore my personal opinion of it though and try to jump into the mindset of anyone trying keep this board alive… how can you seriously think that having that in place is going to encourage new members to post? To the average person browsing this site for the first time, it seems way too cliquey.
I agree and hopefully now its over.
The period of editing out names of other websites? Are we in China? That’s not a bump to mrmak, I’ve yet to post there.
Sites that SPAMMED this site when we were hacked were censored and remained censored.
Only die hard members would have stuck it out through the loading time problem. In 2007 people expect instant internet - they wouldn’t have checked back with those delays and it took far too long to fix.
Even Myspace has server problems. More donations and VIPs would have solved the problem then. Things have been upgraded and are fast now and will be in the future.
Fact is there are less members. I miss the days were it was even worth checking LTTP section every day.
Youre and intelligent guy and I am sure you have a ton of friends that you could point in out direction to increase activity.
Losing PMs was shit, I had some info and correspondence I wanted to keep in there.
You were warned for about a month before they were removed if not more.
Pop ups murdered Mix Em Up and the trading sub forum. I reckon that Mix Em Up was one of the best methods to get people to stumble across this site. Not now that it’s been killed off.
There are no pop ups in Mix Em Up, only the download and torrent parts because a lot of users just leach, but they will go soon as well.
Bring back the display age option!
Ok sure, but does it REALLY matter that much?
The new hot links are fucking irritating. A couple here of there I could live with but in peoples personalised sigs?
Ignore them.
It is pretty obvious that we weren’t told the truth about the hacking of hit em up. I’ll never know the full story so I will never make any any assumptions. But I don’t like being lied to.
Actually you were. The domain was registered under a different domains email address, that domain expired, the "hackers" bought that domain and thus had access to the emails, requested the passwords from the domain register and took what they want. Its not really that hard to do, we told you this from the very beginning so I dont know why you're confused. No lies.
Losing my VIP was another nail in the coffin. Sure, I never paid for it, but I never posted in it or downloaded from there either. It was the closest thing to a thank you I received for about a years worth of news posting. Pittsey did say thank you, but even from his posts alone its clear he's one of the people with intelligence and integrity.
Im not sure why it went, it probably expired but since you werent paying it didnt renew itself automatically; Ive reinstated it for you now.
The ability to view the number of views on the news articles posted was removed.. No matter, I doubt they reach the 1,000 mark anymore, or was that why it was removed?
The news archive isnt ready yet, nothing was removed, there is just no NEWS page right now. Although if you go to
http://www.streethop.com you can see the top article and see how many Views it has. So once again, I dont really understand why youre brining this up as its not even accurate or an issue.
Pop ups have had viruses for some people. Saying that it’s not your responsibility is not good enough.
No they dont, the virus is on your computer and is triggered by the pop ups. Clean out your spyware and computer with a virus scanner.
None the less the pop ups are gone.
Our Block is filled with people saying hi to each other. Fascinating.
So post something more interesting.
Little things still fucked up. If I click on a link within SH to SH it just takes me to the home page (voting for SH awards for example).
No idea what youre talking about, try bringing it to our attention and Im sure it will be fixed.
I’d also like to apologise to Rukas (and Pittsey) for just disappearing from news posting with no word what so ever. I won’t make excuses, I’ll take responsibility because I don’t think greatly of myself for doing that and it's certainly something I should have handled better.– I’m sorry, I should have kept you in the loop. Sorry I didn’t ever hop onto MSN either Rukas, I don’t really use it… When it comes to writing I’m a person who likes to construct my words with detail and delicacy to convey what I mean, the nature of MSN doesn’t let me do that the way I like.
I bear no ill will for anyone here, and if any of you are ever in Sydney send me a PM, I’d gladly meet anyone here for a drink.
A very sincere thank you to the people who helped me write articles for tasks outside of this website. My apologies for not thanking you individually nearer to the time, again something I should have handled better.
Anyway, sorry for the essay… after all… you guys did ask why I don’t post here anymore.
As I think Cormega says, the greatest certainty in life is change.
Things here have changed. I’ll probably lurk in the background for a while longer to see if more changes happen – I’m hoping that perhaps this post will contribute to that.
James.
All good, but I dont know why you mention half the shit you mentioned because it is simply not true or not accurate.
Good luck with your future journalistic career.
