Yes. I like going around saying "hey black boy" to black boys.
white boy is used alot, u know people dont go around saying black boy so if u white just answer the q

asking the q cause i know some whiteboys and when i call them whiteboy they dont trip, they just laugh, is this cause i live in a city where whites are the minority

It of course depends on the person. Personally, I couldn't care less. There is a double-standard, but it is valid. If you seriously think that if you are called 'cracker' you can reply with 'nigger,' you are out of your mind, these aren't simply words in isolation, they have histories and some are more oppressive than others.

But to the original question, it is generally accepted that 'white boy' is a benign descriptive term. You see it in the media, you see white people using it, you see black people using it without reprimand. It is different than 'black boy,' they are different words as they have different connotations, think of them like homonyms.

People didn't seem to take his question to seriously, but I think it's a pretty good question. I asked a couple of my friends this awhile back and didn't get a serious answer out of them either.

For the most part, a lot of minorities tend to be pretty damn sensitive, and get offended really easily. I know a lot of people who before they really get to know me feel as if they have to walk on eggshells around me as far as jokes that are okay to tell or trying to find the "okay" terms to use around me.

However, people say "white boy" all the damn time. I hear it all the time, "Aye, white boy" "Who's the white boy" etc. And I think it's offensive. I can't say that I haven't used the term before at one time or another. However, when you really stop and think about it, it is and should be considered offensive I think.

I know if someone came up to me, like "Hey Black Girl" that wouldn't fly over well with me. But for some reason a lot of people seem real lax about it, like "I don't care" "I've always been called that" etc. That doesn't make it okay though. Yeah, I know it's a double standard, but that doesn't mean that if it offends you, you have to accept it.

When you really think about it, you see a difference. 'White boy' and 'black boy' are not the same. Context is important, institutional racism exists and the structures of power in the white world are white, so there can never be anything besides a double standard. The word 'boy' when used towards a black person carries historical power-related connotations, while 'white boy' has arisen whilst black people do not have the balance of power in their favor, so it is not an oppressive term intended to keep a white man down by reducing him to the level of a 'boy.' The word's historical connotations are everything, the word 'boy' means two different things when connected to either of the words, 'white' or 'black.'
