Technology website promotion (rankings and all that ish)

im looking to start my own website, and i surmise there are people on here with their own (business or otherwise).
if you have tried anything to increase traffic (and it has been successful), i would reeeaaally appreciate any info . most of the sites i have visited today did not help at all. maybe im just a bad googler, who knows
ps. i have the design thing figured out, im just looking for useful traffic/marketing stuff.
if i discover any good sources of information, i will list them here.

nevermind. found what i need.
when my designs are finished (photoshop + CSS) it will be on.
i was planning to type a whole lot more, but there are obviously no other webmasters here...
