So I just saw this movie and it was real good. The beginning is so scary and the action is the best I've seen in years. Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning are real good in it too. Speilberg as his best. See it now!

Peace.

Yes i would say suspensful but the beginning i thought was scary when everyone was being vaporized running away. That scared the shit outta me!

This is kinda a spoiler so...

SPOILER WARNING

The birds showed that the sheilds were down. The birds would normally be vaporized if they got that close. The vein-like things (which i don't really understand what those were) turned to a dust or something when they were in contact with trees, which showed that mother nature didn't want them there. This dust (i think) made their machines crash (or the aliens died when breathing it) and thats how we won.

how was it scary? were there machines in cruise's house or somethin.

No the machines weren't actually the aliens. The aliens were using machines as ships for extermination. You can't tell from the previews.
Sorry I said too much i think.

Peace.

SPOILER WARNING

no the machines didnt die from the dust, the aliens died from diseases that we consider common. they came from a different planet where every organism evolved differently and you know without the proper precautions (like the some 10 needles you get put in you as a baby lol) even the flu can kill you. that's what killed them. didn't you listen to morgan at the end of the movie? lol

yea....good movie and everything but the way it just ended rather abruptly ........all cuz of what......an ameoba??(sp?) lol it was silly in a way but profound at the same time.

the best part of the movie 2 me, was the way they showed humanity and how desperate we can get when things get bad....in particular the scene where they were fighting over the car.....almost like zombies.

movie was good, made me nervous at times like the car scene and the way everyone was just running aimlessly while being vaporized. Got my pulse rate up.

Then why did Ray stare at the trees at the end and watched the dust blowing in the wind? And how did the sheilds go down?
You're right I think I didn't really understand what Morgan meant?

"Justin Timberlake and Tom Cruise and, uh, blast! Who the devil do the teenagers like? Uh...Morgan Freeman."

The aliens tried to colonize Earth, much like we are thinking about colonizing Mars. They tried to introduce their own plant life down here to sustain he climate they wanted just like scientists think if we plant trees on Mars it will develop into an ecosystem we can live in.

Thats what the red plants were, and they were using processed humans as fertilizer.

Then, the plants started to die and turn to dust, thats why Ray was looking at the dust. The Aliens died of the same thing.

Crappy crappy end to the story, and Im not blaming Spielberg he did what he could with the subject matter. And fuck, its brilliant for when HG Wells wrote it, but by today’s standards its kind of crap.

Ok come on, these Aliens buried these HUGE metal machines in the ground and we never ever ever ever found one? I find that hard to believe, with all the digging we do, and the thousands of the machines there must have been, that we never undug one of them.

Also, you're an Alien species that has been around for millions of years. You've mastered space travel. You can travel down lighting. Yet you cant build a space suit to stop you from breathing in the bugs? You dont test the air first? You have no hand held weapons? You cant find a more efficient way to wipe out humanity than to pick them off one by one?

Seems to me they could of just released some killer virus or nuked us all.

Just came back from watching this, The special effects and the Alien ship designs were excellent and all but other than that it was terrible. The plot was focused too much on Tom and his girl, There was hardly any 'war between the 2 worlds', I really thought the Aliens were going to engage in an all out war with the united Earthlings. I was disappointed indeed.

Saw it yesterday. Great special effects thats for sure, but like Rukas said, alot of the things in the movie by today's standards is BS. No one could have known there was something under the earth with all the shit we have.

The original book was written in the 1900s, so it was normal if they couldn't find it then, was also in England...

I haven't finished the book yet though..

I saw the movie as how we as humans destroy other species without any merci, like the dodo bird for example. This movie showed us the other side of the story, which is how would we react if we we're being exterminated.

Thanx Ruk 4 clearing that up.

Yeah u gotta remember that they were redoing the book. I don't think anyone ever heard of flying saucers or anything like that. There was no Roswell and no ET and no X Files and I assume Aliens were a new subject.

Here's another thing...Those machines were outdated by a million years. Imagine us going to war in a million years with the military technology we have now. But it's Science fiction, so it's best to not question these things.

I felt that the father daughter and father son relationships were interesting to the plot.
They're all great actors.

Peace.

Danm ruk u beat me to it... lol

Movie was poor but good effects. As ruk said the Intellegent aliens are eating and drinking our food and a small cell kills them... If they are that smart ..welll ruk told u wut was up.

It was funny that morgan free man explained the events at the begginin and end .. he did a lot of science videos.

Plus why would the aliens try 2 kill humans then use them as a fuel..?? makes no sense at all.

Cool popcorn movie but too many holes.

I didn't know it was that good, I though it was just another science fiction movie, despite spielberg directing it sounds interesting. I'll try to watch it next weekend, thx for the review!

Stupid plot, too many inconsitencies such as alien crafts being buried under the ground for thousands of years and NO-ONE discovering them, people using video camera's when there was meant to be an electrical blackout etc., poor dialogue, the list goes on. The film is just rubbish, a MASSIVE disappointment for me. It's only redeeming feature is the special effects, the rest is unadulterated tripe.

Yes but it did keep u on the edge of your seat and it was still exciting and the acting was very good. It's pretty much impossible to make a disaster movie, where there are no inconsistancies and no loose ends. With every movie of that type, you could say that about it.

I still think it was great and you should see it. Also most of the critics gave it good reviews.

Peace.
