You're not a role model, though. As a celebrity and an entertainer, he was put in that position as a role model, even if he didn't ask for it. It's the price of being a celebrity. Pac only promoted smoking if i promote smoking by doing it in public. would you say he promoted murder and drug dealing as well? he rapped about those things alot and i never thought of it as him promoting this lifestyle, he's just telling it like it is for him. and the role model argument is crap. i understand that when you're famous people look up to you and want to emulate you, but that doesn't mean that you are promoting that behavior, or saying that kids should do it. otherwise you could say that any actor who goes to an R-rated movie is promoting R-Rated movies to kids, or if a celebrity drinks, he's promoting alcohol to minors. it's a bullshit argument.

The quick way that you can test that notion is to ask yourself, "How would Philip Morris feel about seeing Tupac smoking in public?" The quick, logical answer: "Philip Morris would feel good because he doesn't have to pay for the free promotion. The reality is that kids do look up to famous people and emulate them. That's the reality. You cannot disagree with that because you can probably pick out a couple of childhood friends who did that in some way or fashion, or you might have been that child. Now, does that mean we should blame rappers for why kids pick up smoking? No, we should not. However, the kids do emulate and that's that.

It's not about placing blame, but about confronting the realities.
