Wanna See How Big An Atom Is?

it was way cooler with the universe and star sizes.
They made this look like a skin cell or sperm are almost visible with bare eyes.

This was nice. They should have kept going smaller to the face of god.

^yea does anyone have a link to that?

The biggest known star is still unbelievably tiny compared to whole galaxies, not to mention distances even between known galaxies.

Saying that an atom is small to us is a blasphemy considering how small we are even to our own galaxy alone. And then the amount of galaxies.. and the universe.. yeah, we're small.

That's so crazy...and it makes me uncomfortable for some reason

If the sun is the size of a grapefruit, then the earth is a pinhead 15 metres away...we're so small!

Using this scale, the nearest star is 2500 miles away...

The biggest known star is 20000 bigger than the sun.
The diameter of a good grapefruit = ~15cm. So in our scale the biggest known star would be represented by an object of about 300000cm = 3000m = 3km in diameter. Due to lack of any better examples this has 3km in diameter (drawing a line between the furthest points):

Picture our grapefruit (our sun) there, not to mention a pinhead (earth). That's how we would look compared to that star itself.
Then the distance between stars that are the closest to us is a few thousand times bigger than the diameter of that island. In this scale a human being would be smaller than 1 atom.

In all fairness it should be said that all those monstrous stars are very different from our sun. More "loose" (can't think of a better word, lawlz), not as compact, big expanding gaseous bubble thingies.

Still mind bogglingly huge tho

i wonder if that as vast as the galaxy is, if our human consciousness is either objective or subjective to it all, or are we all just limited to our senses and our sense of knowledge

i find space exploration fascinating, and wonder if our human consciousness exists as a complete different entity to that of the galaxies existence, whtvr

So, basically, we are considered an atom in this universe? :(

If you mean the whole universe then we would be much less than that.
In the expanding universe we are more like 1/n (for n-->∞) which in mathematics would be almost 0 by an insignificant, small, uncountable margin.
That's why there was that Cooper's grapefruit and pinhead scale. Our planet is a pinhead compared to an average island being the biggest star we can see from our tiny planet. And it's only one of approx 100 billions stars forming a galaxy. Then there are unknown amounts of galaxies (however estimated to be at least 100 billions of them too).
Then the distances between stars and then distances between galaxies are.. well it's said that the closest galaxy is 40(?) times the lenght of our galaxy from us.
