Film & TV Waiting for a XBOX 360 Modchip? Don't hold your breath

* The flash is encrypted with a per-box key
* The key is stored inside the CPU
* The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU
* Also inside the CPU is a hypervisor that verifies the running state of the kernel, making sure there is no modification (RAM checksums), else the Xbox360 panics and blows up!
* The CPU contains RAM inside of it to store the checksums
* All interrupt/exception handling is done by the hypervisor
* All code runs in kernel mode
* The emulator for first generation games can be updated via an official Microsoft download burned to CD by the user, though the CDs' content will be encrypted and signed with public key cryptography.
The Xbox 360's Hard Disk appears to connect to the Xbox 360 via 7-pin SATA, internally the drive connects to the external connector through standard SATA data and power connectors

plus don't forget all the boobie traps they aren't letting leak to the public.

word around the modchip campfire is that the mod will have to come from an "always on" external HDD which will be modded and not the Actual box itself.

this is crapnews and I hope they can "fix" this cause no way I'm buying games for 70 $.

What about PS3 then?
sony will undoubtfully have similar security measures implemented on the ps3.

eventually it will be cracked and mod chips will be available, but it might take some time.

"Ok, it was cute and all when Microsoft came out with their statements about how "hack-proof" the Xbox 360 was going to be, and they even admitted themselves that "sooner or later someone will work out how to circumvent security," but it seems like we're going to see some hackage sooner rather than later. SPOnG is reporting that the first mod-chips for the 360 will be available within a month, allowing the play of "backup" game copies, which, with the recently released software that allows Xbox 360 game data extraction, means that Microsoft might have some piracy on their hands before too long. Though, if it's any consolation for the boys in Redmond, SPOnG is reporting that "Microsoft's security is the best we've seen to date for a disc-system. It it weren't for the fact that DVD is used, it's likely that further development wouldn't have been worth anyone's time.” Oh the irony."

The Xbox 360 will eventually get hacked.

But not everything is hackable. If you want something to be unhackable it can. But it costs money and would not be viable for a computer games consloe.

Think of Sky Television in the UK. That only has 128bit encryption, yet a public hack has never been found.

all it needs is some time....there will always be people trying to get around stuff....whether it takes a year, or a couple months, some dude living in his mom's basement (what a cliche) will prolly find a way around it....

im not that educated about this kinda stuff...the CPU having a key and whatnot, but im sure taht there's gonna be a way around it...
