You've got to be kidding me. The rap game is business son. It's all about the money. Hell, if 50 cent approached Fatal about joining G-Unit, he would even get down. It's like what 50 said. If you want to sell join G-Unit. I'd be the first person to jump in a G-Unit video with a G-Unit shirt if 50 saw me on the streets and offered that to me. Hell if you were a rapper or not even a rapper and 50 wanted you to be down with his crew even you would join. If Fatal was to jump to G-Unit I'd be happy because I know he'd receive the well deserved exposure he should've gotten a long time ago. Plus I know he'd be successful in making money and selling records.
Like would you prefer Mobb Deep, MOP, or even Fatal to be signed to Roc-a-fella or G-Unit. If I wanted an artists to fail, I'd wish for them to be down with Roc-a-fella and the rest of the nobodies over their like Bleek & The Young Gunz who have been on the label for years and still haven't succeeded. On G-Unit, all you have to do is put out one album and you are a superstar. Look at Game for instance. G-Unit is hot. If you were an aritsts, I'd like for you to sit there and keep it real, while your pockets were getting thin. Even Pac who kept it real was rumored to making big moves like leaving deathrow because of money. At the end of the day money is what feeds you.
I have the same feelings when it comes to Mobb Deep. I'm happy for G-Unit and Mobb Deep. They'll finally get the mainstream exposure that they need to help their credibility and pioneer them as one of hip hop's top duos ever. And besides I don't know about the rest of yall, but before this I've always had an impression that Mobb Deep has been broke for some reason. You can hate it or love it, but they are on a winning team now. Before 50 signed them Mobb Deep's future looked grim. I heard they were both splitting up and because of G-Unit, Mobb Deep are like new artist with a new life again and a second chance. I'm anticipating their 7th album more than anything.
GGGG--GGGG--G-G G G G-UUNNNNNNIIIIIIIITTTTTTT!!!!
If anything blame southern rap. Ever since they came out the rap game hasn't been the same. And also blame Diddy for making the rap game the commercial route to go since you don't like mainstream. He started that trend when he was on fire in 1997.
The rap game is a buisness now, I listen to golden days of rap where artists were mcing for the sake of making music. I dont know why your using fatal as an example, personally i couldnt care what the fuck he does i never felt him.
I personally would never sign with G-Unit records, no matter how much I would sell just because I am affiliated with some wackass extortionists. When a record label can release the most utter garbage (Beg For Mercy, Massacre, Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon, and I'm going to assume that Olivia album Behind Closed Doors) and have it all go platinum something is seriously fucked up.
I always gravitated to Mobb Deep's music because they always had that underground hardcore vibe to them, its what they do, its what their good at and what they should stick to it. Do you honestly believe for a second that they will put out another Shook Ones, Eye For An Eye, Up North Trip, Quiet Storm e.t.c while their under 50? Who might help write hooks and give them Dre beats and Yayo features? Fuck no, they self produced their first album and half of their second (with dope ass guest producer Q-Tip, granted) which are both considered classics, they had the fucking balls to retaliate against 2Pac, who is now the biggest rapstar to date, Jay-Z, who during the entire 2001 era had been dominating the charts with his Blueprint, and collaborate with the likes of Nas, one of the best mcs alive. Tell me this? has 50, or anyone from G-Unit achieved this? Apart from some bullshit subliminal one line disses against Nas on 50's half hearted "Piggy Bank".
Now I admit, Mobb Deep got sidetracked by trying to put out a mainstream appeal album (Amerikaz Nightmare) and that should hopefully be a sign to them that they should stick to what they were doing, check the RIAA Gold & Platinum databases (attached), they currently hold six awards, five gold and one platinum, believe me, that is not exactly a pittance, especially seeing as how these days if you dont have the word "platinum" under your belt your not shit. To quote Young MC from the rapper episode of The Weakest Link, who replied when was insulted that his last platinum record was seven years ago "the cheques still cash at the bank".
Now, Mobb Deep had just recently signed to Jive records, who inked them one of the only 50/50 contracts in the industry. Meaning simply that half the proceeds from their records go to Mobb Deep, the other half to the label. I understand if there actually had been tension between Jive and Mobb, when Jive realized that they could not market Mobb Deep like the rest of rapper's out, and wanted them to leave, but why Mobb Deep themselves would leave after inking the 50/50 is a wonder to me. Why they would go and sign up with 50 after being dissed on Piggy Bank "do your ass like Jay did Mobb Deep" which isnt even a real diss, its still disrespect.
Now, would i rather have Mobb sign to G-Unit or Roc-A-Fella? Neither, I can see the same things happening with Jay getting all up on their tracks with his one liner, range rover, pressure who won't crack bullshit. Mobb has always been independant from day one, until now.
G-Unit is hot right now, granted. But the fact that they are responsible for some of the worst recent music doesnt seem to bother anyone. And I mean, anyone. I would have expected Mobb to 'sit there while their pockets thin' go back to the lab, really work on their next album, loose the Lil'Jon features, reach out to Nas (which i know is impossible because of their beef), maybe some Wu-Tang members like Raekwon or Meth, fuck even The Game, and put out another album.
The only positive aspect of this deal is the exposure Mobb will recieve, however, exposure in the worst way. The "Outta Control (Remix)" is fucking terrible, that is one of the worst verses ever to be delievered by Prodigy, and I was glad to hear Havoc state exactly why they signed with 50 "fucking with 50 it makes sense, cents into them dollars", but now the fact that they are sporting G-Unit clothing, getting G-Unit tattoed on their fucking hands after being signed to them for around 2 months? I love Mobb Deep to death, but the LAST thing i'm doing is anticipating their new album.
And I will not blame southern rap, because I dont see how they have anything to do with this. Southern Rap is practically its own sub-genre, and Puff Daddy has also contributed to fucking up the game with his commercialism and mainstream advances, but he is not to be held responsible for anything that is happening now.
I have been disgusted with 50 Cent and G-Unit since "In Da Club" came out, seeing as how 50 used to be fucking tight, all of his earlier work before he got his ass shot (*cough* nine times *cough* oh 50 your so hardcore) is fucking tight, from Power of a Dollar to "Projects Too Hot" featuring Nas and Nature.
The phrase "hiphop is dead" has used time and time again, but in these days when underground legends such as M.O.P & Mobb Deep will ink a deal with the game's largest dilluter, it is true. Let me end on the note you did.
