Vocal booths in closets

The new place has a HORRIBLE echo, so bad I cant even record properly, so I need to place the mic somewhere I have a large closet, high enough and deep enough for me to fit the mic into and stand comfortably (remember im 6 foot 4).

I need to buy a longer mic cord, but before I do that, will it even help the sound at all? I was going to put two wollen jumpers on either side f the mic to try to deaden the sound a little, and eventually put accusting foam in there, but right now I really need to get something simple set up as I have people coming from interstate on Saturday to record for the album.

have you tried setting your mic up in your bathroom? sometimes bathrooms can have good acoustics for recording. it might sound better than a closet and a little more room for you.

Bathrooms will give me too much reverb, plus its on another level of the house.

I dont want reverb, I have it in this room as it is, I want dead flat sound that I can then ad reverb too.

Try surrounding the mic in blankets.

I have no clue if this will work but I heard it somewhere before. Sounds like a cheap tactic, but it's worth trying.

yea, blankets could help. big, thick blankets, or even a big rug. do you have any sleeping bags? they spread out real wide and are thick. i've never tried it but it might work.

lol, you dont have to cover yourself in it, just nail it up on the wall or around the area where your mic is.

just buy your self some foam and staple it to the walls of your closet and put the mic facing the wall with the foam so the vocals dont bounce and get your self a poper stoper and your good you can get the foam in rolls and its cheap its like $10 a roll. make sure you pad the whole closet tho pm me if u have any more qustions ill post a pic of mine later

what you can do is buy a carpet or use an old one, put it on its side and roll it up (cut it so it is only like 5ft) and then find poles or something to stand it up properly and there you have a closet-like acoustic space. then have a blanket cover the step-in hole when you are in there. just brainstorming...

mines set up the ghetto way wit blankets n egg shell pads, i get no reverb or anything it works good for me. i'll post up a sample how my closet sounds
