As ungangsta as itll make me look, im thinking of buying a Vespa or similar scooter. Before i totally ruin my hardcore image hear me out.

1. I’m moving next month into the heart of the city, 5 mins away from work. The problem is there’s always traffic so by car it will probably take half an hour; so a scooter would let me cut through traffic and find easy parking.

2. Scooters have low fuel costs, no registration needed, and I dont need a bike license.

3. I like the idea of cutting down on pollution levels but hate public transport, and fuel costs for a scooter will be lower than bus tickets anyway.

4. Id still find some way to pimp it up.

What you guys think? Anyone ever driven or owned one and have any advice as to what I should look out for?

^I find it funny how you have to defend yourself, by mentioning that you drive a Passat. Relax, rukas, it's ok to ride a scooter. Personally, I wouldn't get a scooter because I have no need for it. If I was in your position, no matter the age, I'd seriously consider getting one because I know how traffic and parking can be a bitch. Just, don't put the safety helmet on, OK?

It was a joke ;) Dont worry I dont take myself that seriously.

And check, no safety helmet = hardcoreness level up 34.7%.

It just wouldnt be Rukas though without a stereo you hear blaring before you hear the engine or see the car!

Stuff you - I want a scooter!!

Hehehe dont you worry Ill throw a sub in there and manage to fit 6 speakers and 4 tweaters on there somewhere not to mention a 20 CD stacker....

And dont you worry, you're always the first I give a ride to...

Is a helmet not compulsory in Aus?

If you get an old 60's vespa, then they are actually pretty cool. I'm into sports bikes myself, but like you said licences and shit are hassle. My Dad was a mod in the 60's (watch Quadrophenia) and Scooters were cool back then. (Apparently).

I wanted to buy an old 60's vespa and clean it up, then park it in my living room. For a cool retro look. Then I realised I'd actually look a bit of a nob with a scooter in my living room.

See this type of thing is pretty cool - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Othe...Z6719QQitemZ4566080541QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD2V

The only problem is you're gonna dwarf that scooter. You're too tall man. Still watch Quadrophenia, and then Scooters will seem pretty cool. And if not, just wear a big helmet and hide your face. ;)

if you get a vespa you need to have 999999 lights or mirrors on it or your not cool!!!!!!!

Quadrophenia a top film :thumb: :thumb:

If its purely for work and nothing else why dont you just buy a bike instead? You do live 5 mins away from work after all.

If you get a vespa, you would be as well getting the Quadrophenia soundtrack! Just to get you hyped!! :D Great soundtrack by the way, im bumping it right now. :)

There's no differences between a car and a scooter, you can't ride a scooter on the sidewalk. The only the difference is the scooter's max speed is 60km/h I think.

The difference is filtering through traffic. fuel costs, insurance costs. Here in the UK, road tax costs.

Also a scooter can do over 100mph if you buy a decent 1.

A 50cc scooter will still do 60mph, unless it is restricted.

Get a bike I think it would be great if it's only 5 minutes. A new scooter here in Canada is like 3500$ and its a waste of money. But if you're lazy, buy a scooter.I'm thinking of getting a bike too because I'm tired of traffic every mornings and nights. I think you would go faster with a bike. Im going to be living right in the middle of the city, the office/shopping area, sidewalks are FULL of people, so I couldnt ride a bike to work if I wanted to, and I hate bikes on the road.

With a scooter I can fill up on $5 and that will last me like 2 weeks, I dont need a motorbike license or motorbike registration fees, and the insurence is cheap. And like Pittsey said, its all about filtering through traffic in between cars and down side streets or whatever, really thought, its a cost for petrol thing. Parking is also easier to find with a scooter.

Keep in mind i dont live in the suburbs and it makes sense.

Peace.
