Canadian hockey fans suck.

So, my friends and I decided on a whim yesterday to go to Vancouver, BC and check out the Olympic atmosphere. Little did we know that Canada was playing against Slovakia that night, hoping to go to the final with the US. Anti-American sentiment was very high lol.

Here's a couple of short clips I took:

That one is right after some crazy American decided to march down the street (I think Granville?) with an American flag. He got jumped by a bunch of Canadians like 5 seconds later and the cops had to intervene. I couldn't find a sight of the flag.

As you can see, they were chanting "Fuck USA" for much of the whole night. Just picture me with three dudes without Canadian hockey attire and you have four suspicious-looking motherfuckers on the street.

however i'd like to point out americans are as bad. when boston was going against montreal in the playoffs, habs fans in boston were jumped.

- Canada not being able to hold on for 10 minutes VS. Slovakia making Canada shit their pants in 10 mins

Had Dimitra not choked and taken a decent shot, it would have went into OT and the momentum would have probably taken them to the final. Canada had 2 1/2 periods to take out Slovakia permanently, and they didn't. It was a poor display as a whole. Crosby is crap - Getzlaf is awesome though.

Also, the game against Russia didn't wow me, I expected Russians to be bitch slapped. The whole tournament Russia played a political game of displaying their KHL players - the KHL being the top league in Europe that has millions of $ funded into it is trying to compete with the NHL some day. The problem with Russians in the KHL is that they're quick, but not tough. Instead of using reliable players from the NHL like Kovalev, they bring on 30 yr olds from the KHL including Federov who I thought was dead by now.

Tomorrow's game will be a lot more leveled - I would obviously prefer Canada to beat USA because Tim Thomas eats his own shit for one, also because... well... it is the USA.

In the end, I'm happy that the Olympics will be ending, and regular programming will now return including my beloved Dragon's Den. lol

Edit: Well the booze is starting to get to my brain after being streamed through my blood. So for now, I will go to bed and reply to everything tomorrow.

Like I said, Canada owned the puck the entire game and collapsed in the last 5-10 minutes. Slovakia basically plays the trap, therefore its not going to be a high score game, or a pretty game, it'll be a game of grinding. I think you, and quite a few people underestimated Slovakia coming into this tournament. They have a really good team, and they play like a team, which is most important.

Crosby is an amazing hockey player. The NHL hypes him up to be the best hockey player since Gretzky, and when he doesn't play like that he gets hated on to the extreme. That's always bothered me.

Agreed for the most part on the Russians. You have to admit though, Canada did play a great game, even if the Russians didn't show up.

Actually on the contrary, I expected Slovakia to do well. I was very annoyed of people saying they were going to get a beating bigger than Russia. That pissed me the fuck off. It's like people don't even analyze teams anymore and assume no one is competition anymore.

I agree, he showed up when he had to, and got a tip of that puck. I still think had Dimitra taken a better shot it would have been different. I liked how Dimitra and Luongo were sympathizing afterwards. It's good spirited; I love that in sports.

Agreed, Russia didn't show up. Especially the defense and Nabokov. I expected more of a fight, but I knew Canada would win, their passing game was impeccable.
