(Rolling Stone) -- The long-gestating Tupac Shakur movie may finally begin production this November, now that director Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day") has brought on Oscar-nominated screenwriters Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson to pen a new script.
Wilkinson tells Vulture that the film, originally written in a documentary style, will not be a biopic.
Instead, it will focus onTupac's last day, and flash back on the four years that preceded his still-unsolved shooting death in Las Vegas.
"He was just beginning to shed that anger and look for a purer voice ... He was in the process of changing himself, and entering a new phase of his life," says Rivele, who previously teamed with Wilkinson to script "Ali" and "Nixon." "He saw the contradiction between the musical persona of 'Thug Life,' and his essential nature as a gentle, sensitive person. And that was partly responsible for his murder: He was not a gangster, but the people around him were."

Like "Notorious," the biopic that starred first-time actor Jamal Woolard as Biggie, Fuqua hopes to cast an unknown to portray Tupac. (Anthony Mackey, who would later appear in "The Hurt Locker," played Shakur in "Notorious.")
Plans for the movie began in 2007, when Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, sold the rights.

I think this guy is the perfect person to play Tupac if they can't find a complete unknown.... Columbus Short.... He played Little Walter in "Cadillac Records" and I saw him in "Armored" with his head shaved....

He looks a little like Pac with the bald head but put the rag and a nose ring on him and he looks the part.... Plus he seems to be an animated person that could pull off the highs and lows of Pac's persona..... I wonder if he is even being looked at by the people making this film, cause I think he definitely could do it...

:thumb: yak thats what Im saying

this shit sounds interesting last day with flashbacks

I hope they don't focus on his last day. You know, being as he died after being in hospital for a week. I'm not sure much would happen in that movie.

I guess they mean September 7th.

so article says its filming this year
i hope they just didnt want 2 rush live to tell unless some bullshit in production came up on that

heard bow wow has put him self forward for a part

My first thought upon reading your post was that he could play the role of Kadaffi.

Rapper/actor BOW WOW is campaigning for a role in the new TUPAC SHAKUR biopic. The young star has taken to Twitter.com to beg director Antoine Fuqua for a part in the upcoming film. He writes, "I want to play Shock G or be one of the Outlawz in the New 2Pac movie. Mr Antoine Fuqua holla at ya boy... I'm ready."

This was the latest news as of Friday last week Tupac Shakur Biopic Is Back On Track - MTV Movie News| MTV Had they shut down pre-production while we were getting all the other updates from the director?

Another article had this info:

[....]while expressing concern that there wasn’t an obvious star to play the hip-hop legend. Well that fear is shared by the filmmakers who have agreed to set-up open online auditions to find an unknown to play ‘Pac. Morgan Creek Productions/Universal Pictures and director Antoine Fuqua will join forces with skee.tv kick off the search before the end of February. According to Vibe “All those interested in a shot at auditioning will be instructed to upload a video and fans will vote and choose the winner.”

Heck, they may as well have gone all out and created a spin off: 'Tupac Idol' :D

The monologue for the audition:

Frank Alexander reportedly thinks Josh Harraway (Tupac Impersonator) can get the role.

One man who thinks Harraway is fit for the part is Frank Alexander, Tupac's former bodyguard who protected the rapper from September 1995 until his sudden death in September 1996. Alexander[....]told AOL News that he's been helping Harraway with his monologue for the movie, giving him pointers on how to "walk, talk, act and think like Tupac."

"I'm teaching him everything I can about how Tupac moved. Josh's resemblance is striking. With practice, I think he has a good chance of getting the role," Alexander said. "Josh still needs to work on getting down Tupac's swagger and charisma, but he's beginning to scratch the surface."

Soulja Boy might audition to play Tupac

...Soulja Boy appeared on MTV's "RapFix Live" and told Sway that he was also asked to audition for the role of Shakur in the upcoming Antoine Fuqua-directed Tupac biopic. "I got an email from William Morris Agency — that's my agency that I'm with — they reached out to me to play the part. I'm just still thinking about it right now," Soulja told Sway. "Even with the whole 'Juice' movie, I'm playing a part that Tupac played, but I'm not actually playin' 'Pac. When it comes to this, I'm actually gonna be playin' 'Pac, so I'm really still just thinkin' about it. But I'm just honored that they would reach out to me and ask me anyway."
