A Manhattan judge yesterday (January 31st, 2008) set a temporary trial date for Remy Ma’s assault and witness tampering case.

As reported earlier, Remy is accused of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the abdomen inside a car after they both left a Manhattan nightspot in July 2007.

Remy was initially charged with attempted murder but prosecutors would drop the charges to assault after evidence revealed that the gun went off accidentally. She is free on $250,000 bond.

The witness tampering charges stemming from an August 2007 attack on the boyfriend of a witness at a Bronx nightclub which prosecutors claim Remy orchestrated with the help of her male friends.

According to TMZ, Remy was present in court when the judge set February 25th as the beginning date for the Bronx’s rapper’s trial.

Despite the charges, Remy is also facing an $80 million lawsuit which was filed by Barnes-Joseph. In her suit, Barnes-Joseph says she suffered severe physical harm and mental anguish from the shooting.

The suit also names Remy’s record labels, Universal Music Group and Sure Shot Recordings. Barnes-Joseph claims that the labels encouraged Remy to "engage in violent behavior" to strengthen her well documented volatile image.
