UEFA Cup and Champions League thread.

^O'Neil was pretty much asking to be eliminated though, look at the squad he chose. I know he wants his players fresh for the weekend but in this day and age if you can't play two games a week I think you're in the wrong business.

Fair enough I can understand Redknapp doing it cos Spurs have their only realistic chance of winning a trophy at the weekend.

Fuck the UEFA Cup anyway. it badly needs a revamp. A UEFA Cup won back in the 90's holds far more value than one that is won nowadays imo.

Milan are out as well.

I love the UEFA Cup, I've been finding it much more interesting than the CL.

Edit: I don't think Villa cared about the UEFA Cup to be honest, they seem much more focused in keeping that 4th spot. Which doesn't surprise me, as much as I'm not crazy about Villa, its nice to see someone else in top 4.

^ Co sign completely. Me and Flip talked about this often. Despite the better match-ups on paper of the CL, UEFA Cup often yields more interesting matches, more things happening and more often than not, better football.

I preferred it back in the day. The level of teams was higher. There was some great finals, especially Liverpool v ALaves in 01. I watched that again the other day. Liverpool were so lucky to win that game lol. Their defending was awful. lmao at the ALaves manager taking off Javi Moreno shortly after he scored his second goal. that was a strange one.

I feel that nowadays, there are too many teams in it and its hard to keep track of. A lot of the clubs from the bigger leagues dont take it seriously enough either.

Isn't the new Europa Cup gonna have a whole new layout? It's going to be more like the CL. Group stage top 2 go through, not 3.

Yup. There will be like 20 groups lawl.

The UEFA Cup is more exciting than the CL which has become the same shit over and over again.

I really think Platini should enforce the rule that only 3 teams can go into the CL and the 4th placed team goes into the UEFA Cup.

That would be good imo. ^^^

Here's a question for you rodents.

Would the 6+5 rule Seth Blatter wants to enforce make the Europa Cup/CL more interesting? or would it have a reverse effect...

It would be good old footy from before the 90s...

Clashes of different football cultures. So to compete in Europe, you will have to integrate different styles with your players, and not players' styles in the team.

Example of a team who just had players with different styles playing together... The Real Madrid with Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Ronaldo... So many stars, yet such confusing football...

came home late from uni, so missed the first half. i thought it was a 6pm kick off and thought id be home on time. turns out i was wrong.

Yeah, I watched it a tad, read a few reports, CSKA's midfield outplayed yours. I followed it because Rahimic is Bosnian and I wanted to see your team lose. :D

Then again, you guys didn't care much about the match, that's why you lost mainly.
