it's a linux-based system. It's best advantage is that it's free and kinda better but most software doesn't work on it.

now what about dual-booting? can i install ubuntu alongside vista and if i dont like it i can just erase it? i dont want to have to go through transferring my stuff back and forth just to install OSs

yes it's possible. Many people do stuff like that. btw. Still the best OS is XP overall.

I used Ubuntu and I found it damn near impossible to get some of my stuff installed. For instance I first tried to install my wireless card. failed. Then i tried to install my ethernet card. Failed. Once it get's online it's great but getting that far is a joke. It is a nice OS to use though. But just don't expect it to be like windows because it lacks some things you like and adds some things your not use to.

aight gotcha.. i deleted the iso i got... no big deal.. i just figured i'd heard alot about it i'd use it... amazingly, vista hasnt been giving me a whole lot of problems...

My friend has it, like you said, the compatibility with software is the only thing that gets in the way of Linux, I wish it was better since, Windows is ass.

If you're gonna use a Linux based OS either use Fedora or Mandriva/Mandrake they are more user friendly .
