Pac was a Lyricist.

But apart from the 'lyricist - Composer' relationship he had in music; did Tupac ever try his hand at composing the music for his songs/ or have enough knowledge on music theory to do so?

your language is a little off.

i'm sure oyu mean tupac as a composer (one who writes music). i'm sure that somewhere along the line pac learned the technical side of music creation, but i don't think i have ever seen any evidence of him knowing how to play any instruments other than his acting in gridlock'd. you could argue that he was a composer from the aspect that he produced several songs, but by the strictest sense this would not ring true since very few hip hop songs use traditional music notation.

^in the making of makaveli they said he realy laid the foundation for a lot of the beats and told people what shit to hit etc. and that he fucked around on a grand piano he had and got Bomb First goin. don't know if any other shit besides that article or othe rinstruments right off

Everyone involved in music does that, i mean like telling thier producer what they want to hear, adding stuff to the beat etc.

nah i'm sayin what he did on tracks off of Makaveli

on music choice , you know how it has those artist facts in the corner of the screen, it said he played the melody to life of an outlaw

My language was a little off, my bad.

I guess the answer to my Q is 'NO'. Although 2Pac oversaw the production on many of his tracks, his contribution was purely lyrical. ie pac was just a performance poet working with a beat.

It just got to thinking when he sings #'got the police bustin' at me, but they can't do nothing to a G'# - that song is in the key of G, I thought it might have been some kind of lyrical ambiguity in reference to the actual musical-theory side of the song. Coincidence maybe?
