I didn't get into rap until 1998-1999. I didn't really know much about the culture or any of the history. The first time I really heard Pac, and I mean really heard him, was on "Changes." I loved the song. It was literally awe-inspiring to me. I never heard anything like it. I went out and bought some of his albums and fell in love with him. All of this was before I read one thing about his life. The fact that he had gone down in a blaze of fire had no bearing on my feeling towards his music. Though I may get less respect for not following through his career (though I was a 5-11 year old white boy in a house that listened to classic rock), I can honestly say that his image and his controversy wasn't what moved me - it was his words. Pac became the greatest rapper in my mind before the "Rape charges, Death Row Records, Beef, Being Shot, Thug Life, Death."
