Tupac - Life of Sin

After the great discussion we all had in the threads discussing Pac's lyrical ability and the song, Blasphemy, I thought I'd throw out a line that pops up constantly through Tupac's music - "life of sin" and generate some discussion about it.
I can think of several examples where he said this off the top of my head:

1) Until the End of Time: "Lord, forgive me for this life of sin..."
2) Me and My Girlfriend: "All I need in this life of sin..."
3) Never Call You Bitch Again "This life of sin..."

Anyways, you get the point. These references to a "life of sin" can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Why did Tupac say this and what did he mean by it? After all, he often stated and implied in both his music and interviews that the lifestyle he was leading was a justified one and that he was doing right by God and his people. For example:

1) Vibe Interview June 1996: "But in my heart, I believe what I'm doing is right. So I feel like I'm going to heaven.

Furthermore, he made several references implying that he would go to heaven:

1) Hold Ya Head: "Don't rush me through the gates of heaven..."

We all know 'Pac is renowned for his contradictions, but I think that this question warrants some serious attention.

--If 'Pac stated in various interviews and songs that he was living righteously and held out hope that he would go to heaven, why this emphasis on a "life of sin?" It's an interesting paradox.

I think your over analyzing his lyrics a bit.. I dont think he meant anything "deep" when he says "Life of sin".. He used alot of phrases more then once in his songs.

well he did live a life of sin but it was somewhat justified. raised by the black panther party, abandoned by his drug addict mother thrown to the streets, survived, was robbed and shot 5 times, survied, was set up, crucified by the media. so he was constantly at war with the 2 different sides of his personality, he lived a life of sin but it was justified by the shit he went through. he wanted out of the thug life style but it trapped him and he couldn't escape it he like he said wanted a chance to do right but never got it.

I doubt it. The song is about him and his gun, you think there's no sinning involved? lol

Also, in the song, he's comparing him and his gun to Bonnie and Clyde, who obviously lived a life of sin... I shouldn't even have to explain this.

Well, I was just pointing out that he didnt say it just to rhyme.

I think this is a valid/good question, especially given the bullshit questions that come up again and again in the Life forum recently..

Why not look into 2pac's lyrics, especially when it comes to contradictions?

Contradictions are good to discuss, as there will never be a definitive 'right' or 'wrong' answer.
