Got my oil changed at the Toyota Dealership today and the service guy told me that my tranny fliud was black (almost 60 k miles).. He recommended I get the transmission flush for 250 bucks! But then I remember another place I get my car serviced at and they had a sign for a Transmission drain and fill for like 30 bucks..

I really dont wanna pay the 250, plus I could probaly go to another place and get it done alot cheaper, but should I get that or the regular drain? Does the flush really make that big a difference?

It's better to get the flush of course. Technically, garage holders are always right saying that it's better for the car. However, it's not necessary of course. Anything to make you spend more money on them. :)

If it's a manual transmission it has to be a drain and fill which runs you about $50 at jiffy lube. An automatic transmission flush runs about $110. To drop the pan and change the filter gasket it will run about $150, all alot cheaper then a dealership plus a lot faster.

Plus a drain and flush is not as good but it does what it does, changes the fluid and puts new fluid in. So it's really all the same. Instead of changing 99 percent of the fluid a drain and fill changes about 80-90 percent of the fluid.

But I never heard of any transmission fluid being black after just 60k. Most transmissions are recommended for their first service after 30k-75k.
