I have to write an essay, any type(informative, persuasive, narrative, etc.) about racism. However, racism is too broad of a topic, therefore I need to find a sub-component of it, kinda, and make a statement on it in my writing. But, what could I write about? I thought prejudice or stereotyping, but I don't think that directly qualifies as racism, so I need something else. Any ideas? Also, I need serious replies, not something stupid, so, either say something significant or nothing at all. Thank you.

the KKK would be easy.. just write an informative on that

you could argue whether or not affirmative action is another form of racism

you could talk about South Africa and how the blacks were suppressed down there. i know a little bit about that if you choose to do it.

umm... trail of tears and the other racist acts of the US gov't against the native americans

there's a couple for ya

You could just write about racism period and how it has shaped our society, certain wars that were race related, and so forth.

I have written an essay on racial profiling for politics a while ago. This was world politics and I compared Canada (with the recent racial profiling cases; where a black politician actually said that black youth should be stopped and searched at random), the UK, and the USA.
It was a quick write since I know many people who have actually been racially profiled by cops and many other groups of people.
Read a lot of books and a bunch of laws especially the new Patriot Act which deals with terrorists.

You guys have good topics, but it's now past 10pm and it's due in the morning. I have no time to research. I'll just wing it.

and its actually called "Black Men and Public Spaces" by Brent Staples.

try n find it at a online library if u know. but its a really well written essay..about stereotypes, racism and etc.

^Fuck it, lol. I'm just gonn wing it. My topic sentence is "Prejudice is for the children." God help me.

lmao.

heres a piece of my paper..see if it helps.

"Staples’ story telling methodically sheds light on this subject, directing it to the general public but also dividing it into “attacker” and “victim” groups. To the supposed and stereotyped “attackers” he shows them how a lot of people think and react to them. To them, he conveys a message of presenting yourself and how each presentation comes with territory. He tries to show that if one dresses and acts like a stereotypical “thug” he or she will have to accept inevitable reactions. Despite their actual involvement in stereotypical activities, the notion is conveyed by their attire.
To the “victims”, Staples’ clearly illuminates the fact that even through they have every right to be frightened of people who are of certain nationality/ethnicity or dress like “thugs”, they have to recognize that their reactions make them racially/ethnically prejudiced."

^Yeah, but, prejudice is universally looked at as a negative thing. I want to counter that. Besides, I have one of the highest grades in the class, I'll be fine. :)
