i jus read somewhere that christian is still signed with the wwe tho jus taking a little time off...i dunno i dont think chrisitan would be that "big" of a jump tho..maybe somebody like benoit who's contract is basically over
I thought there would be some sort of clause where he couldn't work for TNA for at least 90 days, like everyone else. Are you 100% sure that it is Christian, or are you just assuming this?

To follow-up on the Christian signing with TNA, it really came down to several things.
As reported by TNAWrestlingNews.com, when Jay Reso, also known as Christian, debuts for TNA Wrestling, he should be able to continue using the Christian name that he used in WWE. He will not have to rename himself like past WWE superstars (Dudley Boyz, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, etc.) coming to TNA had to do.
The reason for this is he was billed as Christian Cage on the independent circuit early on in his career. At the very worst, WWE will force him to call himself the full Christian Cage name, although that would be somewhat pointless and the good money is he will still be just "Christian." This is very similar to circumstances that surrounded the Honky Tonk Man leaving the World Wrestling Federation years ago and continuing to use that name. The precedent set here was that he was Honky Tonk Wayne in Stampede Wrestling. He was allowed to use the Honky Tonk Man name, then, anywhere he went because he had established the basics of his name and character long before his WWF tenure. It would be the same case with Jay Reso.
Now, some strong reasons a TNA deal appealed to Christian. He has been a close friend of TNA booker and talent Scott D'Amore ever since the two met years ago as independent wrestlers in Canada. Christian also lives in Florida approximately 90 minutes driving time from where the TNA live events take place at Universal Studios. As far as his former WWE contract goes, just to reiterate this point, there is no 90 day non-compete clause to worry about since his contract actually expired. An immediate TNA arrival will occur this Sunday at the PPV.
One last major point to bring up here is also a reason Christian did not resign with WWE. The main reason he didn't sign was because of the lack of a push he was getting despite the fact that he had gotten himself over with the crowd in a major way. However, The Wrestling Observer reports that another big reason is because Christian is currently in negotiations for a significant part (what is being reported as a fifth or sixth lead role) in a major movie to be produced by New Line in February. Christian definitely wants the freedom to take this role. He also reportedly wants some free time where he can study acting and prepare for the role. This would be almost impossible to do while still taking part in a full time WWE schedule. The TNA schedule of usually only taping three (2 Impact tapings and a PPV) days a month could fit him well in this regard.

See this is what I don't get about WWE. Why did they make the Dudleys change their names? They were using the Dudley moniker way before they came to WWE. I guess because the WWE now officially owns the rights to ECW properties, they can do this. But when they bought out Stampede Wrestling in 1985 (I believe that's when it was, not 100% sure though), didn't they officially get the rights to Stampede porperties, which would mean they could enforce the name change on the Honky Tonk Man? It doesn't make sense that Vince would do this anyway, it's not like people aren't gonna know who these guys are just cuz their name changed. I can understand it if the name was created in WWE and WWE has the copyright for it, but some of this shit is ridiculous. Bear in mind that Stampede continued to operate (and reopened in 1999) after the buy-out. I'm not too sure about the details of the buy out, but I'm assuming Vince didn't actually acquire the copyrights. If there were any.
If you create a character, like WWE did with Christian, it would be unfair for another company to be able to use it. It's WWE intellectual property. No business would let a competitor use one of their brand names.
But that's my point. WWE created the Christian character, so I can see how they could legally prevent him from using the name. That makes sense. But in the case of the Dudleys, their characters were created well before they came to WWE. It doesn't seem fair that they enforce the name change on them, even if they legally can, because of that reason. That's all I'm saying
True, but WWE paid to buy the Dudleys name. If Coca-Cola bought out Pepsi and fired all the staff, they wouldn't let them go off and set up another company using the Pepsi brand name.Devious187 said:

Well that makes sense. It just seems unfair that they only really started enforcing this when TNA started to become bigger. I mean, when Lance Storm left the company and went back on the independent route, they didn't enforce a name change on him and there are plenty of other examples. It's only because the competition is creeping up on them again.
