Are all black people on rap videos acting all epileptic now? Never thought I'll say I'm glad MTV shows Jersey Shore instead of music videos these days. They foresaw this.
Oh I'm not as well. Judging by what they're showing I guess they target mostly silly people.
The point is that popular music videos now seem to be so dumbed down to that audience as well.
Main stream rap music has been dumbed down. You have too look harder to find music of the same quality as before.
I guess all pop music has been dumbed down. I mean, it's not like it was stellar 5 or even 10 years ago, but it was better. I think part of the reason is that the culture of American youth is also getting dumbed down on average. The society is going through a cultural recess, dumbing down their entertainment. hobbies and culture. That's at least my experience.
But there's still lots of quality music coming out though. There's lots of people liking more ambitious music, probably more than ever because of the popular music getting crappier.

Long story short, it's getting dumbed down.
You can still find proper music but in this era where anyone with a Myspace or Youtube channel can become a star, music is become more and more diluted.
There are still plenty of artists with a record deal who are decent. But there is a lot of shit too. This isn't the 60s where every song on the charts was a classic. This is the internet era where everyone has a 10 second attention span.
Exactly. These internet sensations segue into mainstream music, pop music. Nothing wrong with radio/mainstream music, it's just deteriorated in quality over time. Songs that were on the radio when I first started listening to music in 1998 do not have the same quality of songs out today.

I sometimes wonder if it's the radio music now or I'm getting old. For people who grew up in the 70s, 90s music sucked and they seemed to complain about it. Now to me 90s music was the best, but I was a kid at that point. Maybe 20 years from now we're going to see kids saying that music in 2012 was so much better and going back to it. "Lil Wayne, man, that was hip-hop!". Or no?
There's definitely a sentimentality to the love of music. But.... It has become more about the money and instant success than making good music. As I said before the 10 second attention span. Personally, I blame the medium on which we listen to music. When the world was using Vinyl, there wasn't much chance of skipping through music. Musicians built whole albums that were designed to be stuck on a turntable and listened to the whole way through. Sometimes, every song from that album was released to the charts. In the 80s when CDs hit, it became easier to skip the songs you didn't like so much. You could create a programme to play only your favourites. We all know where we are now with millions of songs at our fingertips and software such as spotify filling our homes. If you don't appreciate a song in 5 seconds, you'll probably never listen to it again. I know that a lot of my favourite songs have been slow burners that I didn't instantly latch on to. These days, we don't give them the time or appreciation they require. These chart hits are very catchy, the masses love them, then never listen to them again.
You didn't let me know the album had dropped. I like it. In a week or so, since I've had it, I only skip one or two songs.
Hey guys. Twitter IPO or no Twitter IPO. $17-$20 a share. It has a fairly reasonable value at $11 billion. I don't think it will be like facebook when they overvalued it like crazy and the starting share price was way too high and they dropped very very quickly. Anyway, what you guys think, would you buy?
