The most messed up thing I've ever heard, no hyperb. What turns people into monsters? This man, who incinerated another human being today, was a baby once. What happened in that thirty-whatever year interim, then to now? I'm sick about this. Someone tell me something positive about the world.
I'm trying to write it off as a blip on the worldwide violence radar. That's what it is, after all. I know it's better to put things in perspective, focus on the big picture. This doesn't move statistics one way or the other. And the numbers are getting better, right? That Steven Pinker book, what's it called? The Better Angels of Our Nature? Yeah. It's about the decline of large-scale violence in human history, culminating in right now, the least violent era ever. That's something to dwell on, even if I'm overstating the details. The big picture is better, but I have a hard time dismissing stuff like this. So cruel and so pointless. Darkens my perspective for a few days. Somebody shed some light.
