M. Mann is a class act.

He's not afraid to use digital. His manipulation of colors is fantastic. And the sound editing of the gun battles are sure to kick our asses.

Forget Transformers. This is action.

Yeah, so every Chicago gangster film is a rip off of your favorite movie. Stop being a douche P.
This was one of my most anticipated movies, but there's just something about it that's putting me off now the trailers are out. I think it has a lot to do with the decision to shoot on video and the story looks so cliche. I'd also say The Untouchables was a more interesting plot than this too. And better cast, better looking set pieces etc.

Well, Pauly - we'll have to put our faith in Depp to keep us engaged in the story. But I think Mann has never failed me with his writing, so that's that.

Mann's decision to use digital cinematography is not hurting him. It does appear to be different than film at times but it never takes away from the movie when I watch his. I bet people complained about audio and color back in the day simply because it was new or because the people complaining were film students who were taught how to make movies by reading textbooks (so when someone comes along and tries something new, they get bashed for not making a 'film'). It's a form of technique. When Spielberg fucked with the exposure of Saving Private Ryan, they might have complained about the washed out color. Or when Lucas created 70% of Star Wars on computers, people might have complained how it was video game and no longer a film.

If you are unable to appreciate those things then, heck, stay home and wait for another gangster flick to come along.
