Our governor just passed a new domestic violence law that increases punishment for domestic violence.
The new criminal domestic violence bill includes the following increased penalties:
* First offense -- up to a $2,500 fine and 30 days in jail.
* Second offense -- up to a $5,000 fine and up to one year in prison.
* Committing battery in front of a child -- a felony with a 10-year prison sentence.
* Third offense becomes a felony punishable with up to 5 years in prison.
And a guy I know got sentenced yesterday for fighting dogs, he got 4 years. Four years for fighting dogs and 30 days for criminal domestic violence. What kinda fucked up shit is that? Do they have their priorities outta whack or what? This is the kinda shit that pisses me off about where I live.

hahahaha....I thought he was fighting dogs as in wrestling with them. I was thinking "Why would he be fighting dogs?" Thanks for the clarification.

Y'all are a buncha goofballs lol That musta been what Skittle was thinking too. I was wondering wtf he was talking about lol Ok, it did kinda sound like that I guess. I dunno, I'm tired as hell and can't go to sleep so there's no telling what whatever I say might sound like. :D

Thats a decent law, doubt it'll stop it though. Does seem a bit crazy punishing dog fighting more than domestic violence, probably because people get money for dog fighting and nothing from domestic violence.

this is disgusting, it basically makes you think that animals are considered more important than women being battered!

it's asssault, they should be sentanced more harshly

First of all your friend deserves his sentence. God only know what else he was charged for.
Secondly, why does everyone assume that the victims in domestic violence situation would be women. And for a first offence that does sound reasonable. Was this your friends first offence? It sounds like the three strikes and your out rule. Ultimately who can say that they have never made a mistake. When people are drunk they may lash out at their husband or wife or girl/boyfriend.
For a third offence a person could get up to ten years. tell us , was this your friends first offence? To be honest, I think the dogs are important. they are being put into a situation where their innate instincts kick in and they are hurt.
Domestic violence has more underlying issues than simple violence. Alcohol being one major contributor in a lot of cases.

^how about we put you into a ring with an evenly matched opponent and you can fight to death! Why cause unneccesary suffering to a living creature for the sake of gambling and fun?

who's friend??? i persume you mean the poster?

do you know that every week 6 womem die as the victims of domestics voilence?? are you telling me that, that is less important than dogs???

i didn't mean it was just women who are victims of it i know men can be too.

alcohol is no excuse, people should learn to control their temper, some abusers are worse when they are drunk, so does this mean that cos they under the influence of drink its ok???

i have never hit anyone when i was drunk, being drunk is no excuse for violence

What are you complaining about? These are some stupid laws,I admit but be happy not to live in Irak or in a country like this...You live in the most powerful country of the world,Jesus Christ! And a lot of people would kill to live where you are living...

People do. It's called bare knuckle boxing. And boxing was originally the same way. But the rules progressed and it became the sport it it now.

And the dogs don't always fight to the death.

I mean. I like Dogs and that. And I'd never be cruel to my dog. But I hate that everyone acts so politcally correct these days.

It's like all these people who complain about too much violence and swearing on TV for example. Their lives must be so uncomplicated and hassle free. I know mine aint.

And I thought the domestic violence punishments were strict too. They need to use common sense. Giving your girl a slap in the heat of the moment is a lot different to premeditated systematic violence.

Hi, lets compare apples and oranges.
Everything has its own place in the justice system. First of, why is the poster even comparing the two things. Her friend commited a crime and there are probably more issues to the circumstances and he got time in jail.
And id you know by the time I finsh writing this that about 3 children will have died from a disease which has a vaccination costing around 10 cents. Everything has its own time and place and circumstance.
What exactly is your point anyway. That the guy who was fighting the dogs shouldn't have got 4 years because there are worse things happening?
