The side of India I have never seen

Ive been to Varanasi (where these pics are from) 3 times in the last 2 years and it is NOTHING like that. I dont know if its been cleaned up or what but its not like that at all now. The Ganges is still polluted in that area though.

btw Varanasi >> than any other Holy city

The links are strangled, jerked and more dead than Carradine.

No really, they're down. Can't see shit.

It's really a focus on the Ganges river, at least that's where most of those dead bodies were. And where everyone was bathing. I've been to some bad places, like Agra, on the way to the Taj Mahal. And it's sad to say that that was like paradis compared to some of these pictures.

The ones by the Ganges were all from Varanasi, not the whole river. If he took pictures in Haridwar the pics would have been polar opposites.

Also, he was totally disrespectful to take pictures of bodies in the first place, you arent supposed to do that. But I guess he was a stereotypical chinese tourist being shutter happy

Worse than bathing in a river filled with rotting corpses?

Go right ahead, find me something worse.

Whats the difference to swimming in a lake or river that has dead rotting fish, deer, raccoons or other wildlife in it?

If you know anything about the culture you will know its no big deal for deeply religious people who live there

Most of the wildlife doesn't die in the water. Fish do, yes, and are promptly consumed by their colleagues. That's how the eco-chain works.

Wait, what? Why the fuck am I elaborating on this? You just equated swimming in normal water to swimming a corpse filled river, LOL.

lmao @ you and casey defending this. Pathetic.

Did I say it was the same? I said if you know anything about the culture you will know its not a big deal to the people there. They believe in the 'ashes to ashes' idea of living beings whether human or animal.
(Perhaps I added that part as you were replying as the time is the same)

Dont try the whole 'you are being pathetic' argument. Im sure we are not all as refined and enlighted as you :)

Just cos they believe in it doesnt make it any less disgusting or unhealthy.

So yeah, if you bathe in a river full of rotting corpses, I'm gonna take a stand and say you're an uneducated moron.

To quote Hans Teeuwen:

"And people say, "Those are the religions of those people, the traditions of those people, their way of life, their culture, you have to respect that." I don't have any respect for that, i think they're idiots. Sorry!"

And just to be technical here, yes you suggested it was the same, you putzmonkey. You asked "whats the difference", I explained, then couldn't believe I had to explain it. I assume you know the difference between a natural lake with some dead fish and a river with about 200 dead corpses every square mile? I do hope I don't have to explain this?

Then why ask "whats the difference?" Thick bastard.

Why are the corpses put into the water as opposed to being buried or burned or laid out in a field somewhere?

The Ganges is a Holy river for Hindus so if they were cremated the ashes are scattered in the river.
Some people cant afford to pay for the cremation so the bodies are put in the river anyway.

Also there are some religions who dont believe in cremation at all and leave the bodies out for animals etc.. They believe in the circle of life. It probably sounds gross but you have to understand that this is a very very religious place and the traditions go back thousands of years.

Varanasi itself goes back over 4 thousand years and is the center special for many religions like Buddhism too

Aww bless your little insults. You seem extremely frustrated for some reason, is everything OK?

I can calmly state something yet you seem to use words like putzmonkey and call me uneducated?

Why do you have to quote someone to make your point, dont you have an original idea of your own?

Anyway, yes I believe it OK for people from there to bathe in the water. I wouldnt do it myself as I wasnt raised religiously like that.

Way to avoid the point :thumb:

You're just trolling. You're right, you're not worth my time.

What, you're saying India isn't like the TV show Outsourced? I can't go to any part of India and expect to see an Indian do a Texan accent? FUCK INDIA!

It is the culture that doesn't place that much emphasis on hygiene. And that may be related to the economic situation of most of the people in India. Not everyone has running water. The Ganges is considered holy so why not bathe in there? This according to the perspective of an Indian community.

My family is from Delhi and it has its own share of dirty places and poor people. But it does not compare to this. It seems like bathing with dead corpses is the only option for some Indians. Hell, they probably drink from the river too.
