I heard that it was being toyed around with, but I never expected it to be done already.

For those who don't know what a rail-gun is. Pop in your DVD of Eraser. lol... or google it.

It rapes, rapes hard enough your ancestors will tell you to leave them alone.

The future is gonna have some crazy weapons, we'll prob blow ourselves up eventually.

That looked like a rocket or something that flew into the Pentagon, lol, not no damn rail gun.

I don't get it. Give more details FlipMo. Why do I see a rocket in the video? What is it about this new technology that makes this anything else than a rocket? :/

It was a 3.2 kg projectile moving 7 times the speed of sound. It looks like a rocket, but its far from it. Someone explained it well in the comments, the stream you see is heat generated from friction with the air. The difference between this and a rocket... The rocket explodes, gunpower and more is needed. This is a piece of metal or wtv you'd like it to be, generally a 50 Cal bullet, moving fast enough that it can go right through a tank completely with no explosion, hence not having to worry about shrapnel, explosion fog, etc.

For old times sake. lol

Where does electromagnetism enter the picture?

Read up on this, I must.

It's how the weapon propels the projectile. Like MagLev trains. A serie of magnets turned on and off in rapid sucession, creating one hell of a forward momentum.

Firing a few kg's of metal at 7 times the speed of sound is insane. The power that has is immense. And very cool.

And yes the big flame is friction heat. Not a rocket.

EDIT: I wasn't entirely correct. The proces I described is a Gauss weapon (coil gun). Apparently rail guns use some other freaky electromagnetic principle.

I can picture Duke having one of those in Twente red colour, yelling gibberish while shooting. lol

I don't understand 100% the concept of Rail-Guns, but as Duke said, it's a freakish electromagnetic/physics concept. As for the coil-gun, you can actually make one yourself. There are vids of people making miniature ones using household items and batteries. Really cool stuff.

Possibility :D

As I understand it, the projectile is charged through the rails. Because of the electromagnetic field generated by the rails, the Lorentz principle occurs (freaky physics shit) and the charged projectile is accelerated.

So the main difference looks to be that the coilgun relies solely on the force of magnetism on the projectile (the magnets pulling the projectile along) and a railgun principle uses the interaction between the charged projectile and the electromagnetic field generated by the rails. I suppose you can say the projectile is pushed or thrusted forwards here.

Anyway maybe Jokerman can explain it better. He's half a physics buff.

... And thats not Fortune gun, its Crying Wolf's, which Snake aquires after the battle with her

No, that's wrong.

Crying Wolf was a sniper and her weapon was a sniper rifle, not a mutherfuckin rail gun.

Fortune had a Railgun, her nanomachines were programmed to create an electromagnetic field around her to control and make it seem that ordinary bullets couldn't hit her. the Railgun gave her awesome firepower as a boss, she wanted to be killed in the end no matter how invincible she appeared to be.

the same with Vamp. the cut scene with Raiden and Vamp is awesome!

Metal Gear Solid > Rail Guns > Metal gear Rex > Metal Gear Ray

I just played the game for the 14th time. Crying Wolf has a sniper gun AND a Rail Gun. I know cuz thats the only thing I get hit with. If you stay in one place too long (like, under the truck) she'll hit you with it. Snake did not ever get a gun from Fortune. Don't you remember Drebin telling Snake that he can have the Rail Gun after fighting Crying Wolf?

And yea, Raiden and Vamp scene was tight. The one in S. America and in Shadow Moses

what scene is it that crying wolf has the railgun, is it the scene in the snow field with the two buildings? when you said crying wolf i thought you meant the oldish woman sniper, you're talking about that big cat-like machine with the big gun, plus there's soldiers running about to ice off too.

not played mgs4 for ages despite completing it several 2 or 3 times
