Any one been to see this yet? I saw it yesterday, the film was really good until the end where Hollywood fucked up the ending (the movie had a completely different ending than the novel), all the Stephen King fans started booing but they all admitted the rest of the film was brilliant and spot on with the novel.

haven't seen it yet, but not at all surprised (or impressed) at the fact that they changed the ending, most film adaptations of King novels are changed substantially in one way or another, and being a huge King fan, it fucking drives me crazy! but what can you do right? i'll put off seeing this one a little longer.

ok I just got free tickets to see The Mist free on the 1st of July, release is on the 4th.

But I've seen The Mist, in fucking November 2007 when I was in Seattle watching it at the AMC in Renton, its like 8 months since. Why so late in the UK?

In today's Cinema world thats a big difference. Especially with alot coming out on the same day Internationally.

I'm sure many King fans would have all ready downloaded this if they wanted to watch it.

Well from what I remember, he doesn't kill them! They end in some Hotel in Portland or something I think.

i hated the movie... i thought the acting was terrible and the antagonist [i.e. monster and/or creature things] were lame as fuck.

but that woman who kept preaching about god, that was some of the best acting ive seen in a while. i wanted to shoot her in the god damn ovaries.. so she had to be doin good.

well despite what i said in this thread before i saw the movie, i actually thought this was good, one of the best King adaptations that i've seen. the ending, while grim as fuck, really seemed like a Stephen King ending to me, and it works better in the film to have an ending like this than the ending that was in the story. as for the people talking about cheesy acting, i have to ask, have you ever read the story? the characters in it were pretty over the top in the first place, so the acting should be as equally over the top. also, the story and the movie were meant to be throwbacks to the old 50's B-movies, so the acting suited it imo. the special effects could have been better, but it was pretty low budget, so that isn't surprising. and once again it fits into that B-movie motif.

edit: has anyone watched the B&W version of the movie on the DVD? if you like the 50's motif, this really gives it that true feeling.

well it doesn't take place in the 50's but the story itself is an homage to those old "attack of the killer bugs" type of movies.

there is nothing that can justify shitty acting. B....D-Movie or not the movie was painful to watch with such crap actors.

well maybe in your opinion zimb, but i didn't see any "shitty" acting. i saw some good acting, and some mediocre acting, and even a bit of overacting, but no shitty acting. and regardless of the b-movie comparisons i made, if you read the book the characters were pretty melodramatic and over the top themselves, so it would make no sense if the actors in the movie didn't try to represent the natures of the characters they are playing. if there is anywhere you should lay fault in that matter, it should be on Stephen King's door for writing such over the top characters and Frank Darabont for directing the actors to act like the characters in the story.
