The Mariana Trench

thats pretty fucking cool, and pretty freaky when you think about it. i looked up some of those fish, i would not like to come across them while having a snorkle

the deepest part of the ocean is 11 miles deep i thought?

thats much deeper than 36000 feet. 36000 feet is nearly 7 miles

^ Nah, it's 11K's.

@ Woody: they look incredibly scary, but most are pretty damn small. You see a fish with a horrible mouth and huge teeth and then you read that the beastie won't grow over 20 cm's.

WU'R SO SCURRRRED

^^ A guy in my class is from Nigeria, his uncle works on an oil rig out in the ocean and he says that the shit that comes out at night is all sorts of fucked up. He was telling me that to go out there and work on the rig you have to sign a contract saying you won't tell people what you see and that they don't allow cameras or cell phones whatsoever out there.

I don't think he's shitting me either. When you think that only 10% of the ocean floor has been mapped.

I think its because some of the stuff is "scary" looking and they don't want it to scare off tourists.

Tell him to take a camera sized pen.

Scare off tourists from where, Nigeria?

I don't think they need crazy looking fish to scare people away from Nigeria.

You cant take cameras or cell phones onto oil rigs for security and safety reasons similar to why you cant use them at Gas/Petrol stations.
