Who is the greatest gangster of all time?

This is a serious discussion, and its not for people that don't know what they're talking about. I like learning about organized crime, gangsters, and just about everything that is crime related.

Please don't list 50 Cent as a gangster. I am thinking more of historical people and those that really have made a name for themselves. When ever you mention someone, make sure you say what makes him the greatest gangster of all time.

Of course, I am going to say Pablo Escobar because I've not seen anyone like him. You all know the story, and the man can't be compared to. Forget Al-Capone, Lucky Luciano, Frank Nitti, and all others. Escobar is not the man to f---- with.

Pablo Escobar it has to be, who else gets their own prison built, what gangster takes over a country. Capone was no joke though.

haha, it's never ever Al Capone - I've read all about The Commission etc, and he isn't even the greatest Italian gangster nevermind worldwide. The greatest is probably some russian/eastern european/asian we've never heard of... but from the ones we have heard of, definitely Pablo Escobar. He was more powerful than a whole government ffs!

Al-Qaeda!

nah for real

Biggest Gangster? id say Lucky Luciano, the U.S government went as far as asking Lucky and his crew for military assisstance, this alone shows just how powerful this man was

biggest crime family? definately the Gambino family, from Albert Anastasia in 20's-30's to Carlo Gambino in the 50's to Paul Castellano in the 70's and Teflon Don John Gotti in the 80's, they ran shit for over 80 years, no one comes close

wow you know your shit and al-quaeda 4 a sec i thought you were serious lol.....

Al Qua'ida probably controlled most of the heroin coming out of Afghanistan in the 80s/90s, and since Afghanistan exports about 80% of the world supply of heroin then I think they might have a case... like I said, the biggest gangster is definitely some guy we've never heard of...

All-capone, We Just Learned A Shit Load About Him In School, Definetly

Al-Capone definitely left behind a legacy of greatness, but was he really as great as many think he was? I am willing to argue that Capone was not as big and bad as he was thought to be. Don't believe me? If Capone was "the greatest gangster" of all time, there wouldn't have been anyone to mess with him. There would not have been anyone to question or fight him. That was not the case. He had many rivalries, and enemies he fought with all the time. Sometimes, they got him, and sometimes, he got them.

Lucky was just another mob boss. If you think about it, he wasn't all that special, and the army assistance is exaggerated. Its not like he was supporting the army financially. If he supported them financially, it would tell us something about his wealth, but that's not what happened. In reality, he refered the government to the Italian mafia in Italy much like an intermediator would.

What I find funny about Lucky is that he was arrested, setenced, and placed in prison without any violence. Does that really tell much about a big-time gangster? There should have been terrorism to the point the government would have backed down.

Al Qua'ida probably controlled most of the heroin coming out of Afghanistan in the 80s/90s,

Just to clarify, Al-Qa'eeda is seperate organization from the Taliban. I don't believe in what is said about heroin, the Taliban, and Al-Qa'eeda, but that's another story.

the biggest gangster is definitely some guy we've never heard of...

How is that possible? I am not saying that it not a Russian dude, but if you are the biggest gangster, people have to know you and know what you do. You can't manage a large enterprise withouth the government and people finding out at some point.

Johnny Torrio - a family man

I am not even going to start on Torrio.

Pennypacker, it is the Greatest Gangster of All Time in people's own opinion & maybe our requirements ain't the same as yours.

Just like I won't support a kiddy fiddler....
