The Earth's Core, ... Still Hot?

This question has bothered me for some time so I thought it time to let it out.

What keeps the Earth's Core hot?

It's surrounded by water and got ice caps on it, and the heat from the sun can't be keeping it hot. Why doesn't the earth go cold inside and turn to solid rock. It just doesn't seem scientifically logical.

if it helps, think of the earth as a pizza.

Yeah, I'm sure that helps explain why the Earth's core is hot.

The core is hot for two reasons:

1: heat remaining from the formation of the planet
2: decay of radioactive elements (potassium, thorium and uranium)

Without the latter, the earth would become covered in water and we'd all die.

its not supposed to explain why.
it would just help him learn the layers.

theres a local college scientist around here who has a theory that the Earths core operates like a nuclear reactor, its actually pretty interesting

he says Jupiter works the same way

the mole people have a nuclear reactor at the core of the earth letting them heat their mole lairs. In 9000 years the mole people will run out of resources and invade the meatbags on the surface and harnass the power of the sun instead.

dude, the mole people cant fuck with us, we'll blow them out the frame

I believe the rotation of the planet also creates energy and thus heat which helps to keep the core at a stable temprature.

Dont quote me cause Im not sure, but I would assume that that is the case.
