one of my favorites as well. pac was so lucky as to get it served on a platter. yes, there was work involved, but anyone who thinks tupac got to where he got JUST by putting in work is naive. of course there was luck involved.

i'm not saying people shouldn't study philosophy, just don't study philosophy and think you're gonna be as great as some asian "star." if it happens that'd be very very cool of course, just don't count on it.

dante's contradictions may not be 100% on point but that doesn't mean he's wrong when he's saying this is not wisdom. and gl hf with your career as a philosopher, lol.

I sense you think like dante, in the sense that you think wisdom has to do with how much money one has, someones career, or thier social status. That's a twisted ideal born of society.

I don't know other peoples definition of wisdom on here, but imo wisdom is about recognizing ones own ignorance; the fact that we know few things, but are ignorant of many.

Socrates (far from rich/no career) dismissed notions from others claiming he was 'the wisest person', because of the fact he claimed (and knew) he knew jack shit. Yet people regard him as a genius, and it had nothing to do with his social conditions. It is all in the mind.

"Thinking we know, when we do not; is the minds worst disease. To know, and yet think we do not, is the highest attainment."

you are wrong in your assumptions. i completely agree with everything you said in this post of yours, minus the assumption. but i do not recognize any of the quotes in this thread as wisdom nevertheless. if anything, Pittsey's two quotes are the only ones on top of my head from this thread that you could live by. the rest apply to certain specific situations, but all the quotes in this thread have one thing in common - they are cleverly formulated sentences that make sense when you don't think about it, but if you were to adopt either one as a a ground principle of yours that you live by, you would at one point or another get burnt.

actually, the idea of formulating universal wisdom in one sentence is stupid.

i think what most people who get caught up in wisdom and philosophy do wrong is they get so caught up in it they get lost in it, and in the end, life if more about definitions and sayings than just giving a fuck and living.

and before you make assumptions, know that i have many a times been lost in my own thoughts and shit. so if you think i'm saying what i'm saying because i'm unexperienced or whatever, you are wrong. i'm probably one of the more reflected people you would find. i'm essentially a lesbian girl in a man's body.

I don't think the originator is known. It's just a very old proverb.
