Apart from the obvious spelling differences like color and favor, what are the major differences between us?

I can think of a few clear cut ones;

Americans take a vacation instead of a holiday

We use aluminium, Americans use Aluminum

We wear Jewellery, Americans wear Jewelry

We turn on the tap, Americans turn on the Faucet

In America crisps are called chips and chips are called fries!

americans take the elevator - in england we take the lift
americans walk on the sidewalk- in england you walk on the pavement
americans goto the mall - in england you goto the 'town' or shopping center
americans put gas(oline) in their cars - in england you put in petrol

You guys go to the local chippy for fish & chips; we go to the local chippy to get laid.

You go to the chemists for drugs; we go to a chemist to learn how to blow things up.

And in Australia we sit on the fence and use all of those terms! :thumb:

in Australia if your a crook, then your a theif. In England if your crook, then your ill. or it was something like that. I heard Helen say it on Neighbours about 10 years ago, so it must be true.

That's if you're crocked. A crook is a thief everywhere.

no crocked is something else. Crook was sysnonomous with being ill in English just that lately it has taken on the other meaning of the word which is 'thief'. it means both 'ill' or 'thief'

What is a "chemist" in America?
A specialist in chemistry, usually industrial chemistry. Someone who prepares drugs here is called a pharmacist.

We have police, you have constables.

We wear pants; you wear trousers.

You use the words jolly, horrid, and frightfully; we never do.

We go on panty raids in college; you guys steal knickers.

We have no idea what the word wanker means.
