Also, NO ONE is going to even attempt to fill Heath Ledger's shoes, which is why if they make a thrid one, they won't include Joker in it, there's no way.

And DP, fuck you. Nicholson's Joker is like you're creepy, pedrass Uncle. I hope Nicholson saw this, he probably had a stroke.

And yeah, even Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent deserves Oscar consideration, but he'll get over shadowed by Ledger.

i don't think you can really compare Nicholson's Joker to Ledger's Joker. the fundamental differences between them (and their respective movies) is this. the 1989 Batman was like a comic book come to life, and Jack's Joker was in that vein, over the top crazy, comic-book crazy. to me, it seems that Batman Begins/The Dark Knight movies are like, what would happen if Batman was real and not just a comic book hero? what would Batman be like if he were here in the real world? or worse, what would his foes be like? Ledger's Joker was played in that vein, a much more sadistic psychopath. i think they both did great jobs playing their respective Jokers, but even though it's the same character, it's really not, so i don't think comparisons are really valid (even if they are inevitable).

loved the movie tho. man that was a fast 2 1/2 hours, definitely the best Batman movie yet. but it is certainly not for kids. i'm actually surprised this got away with a PG-13 rating.

I was thinking the same thing about the PG-13 rating. I think the only reason it didn't got away with that rating is because you didn't see any blood.

oh and i was a little surprised that they killed off harvey dent, i thought they would have kept him and give him a bigger storyline in the next movie.

now i wonder who's going to be the villains in the next one. they can't make the joker come back because ledger is no more (R.I.P.) (which kinda sucks cause we know the ending was open for that)

See 'Thank you for Smoking' and you'll notice the same cocky-arrogance spin doctor like attitude. He didn't do anything new there. As 2 face, some parts were ok, but he didn't wooo me.

Only person that should be considered for an Oscar is Heath Ledger. He changed everything in that role. What we thought of the Joker, he took it, mutilated it, and transformed it 200 times more into a monster he originally was in the comics.

Heath's Joker was darker than i ever remember the Joker being from the comics.

but the point is in the director's visions for the film. when i say that the 89 Batman was more like the comic books coming to life, i don't mean the way the characters were represented based on the comics. i know they changed a lot of the mythology from the comics. but the way Burton shot the movie, it didn't seem real, it felt like watching a comic book come to life. whereas the Batman Begins/Dark Knight series seems to be based more in real life, the characters seem much more realistic, and Ledger's portrayal accurately reflects that. in short, i think both actors perfectly represented what was needed of the character for their respective movies. but that is just my opinion.

I get what Devious is saying. In the end, I prefer the Nolan version for the exact reasons Devious stated. The eternal problem I have had with all comic book adaptations is that they were

1. corny
2. childish
3. plot sucked so action sequences took front stage

Nolan's Batman series aren't corny or childish, and although the film does have some sick action sequences like the tunnel chase, I don't think they overshadowed the plot and the story.

His character is the heart of the movie, he's the one who makes you care because of how hard he falls in the end. It wasn't iconic or stunning but he deserves reconigition for it.

you're talking about the character tho, not the actor who plays him. Harvey Dent is the heart of the film. as Harvey Dent, i have to agree that Aaron wasn't all that impressive. not bad by any means, but not exactly a masterful performance.

You do realize that the comics were made more friendly in the 60's after the Comics code Authority was established? The original Joker was as dark as he was over-the-top. He basically disappeared in the Batman comics for a period because the shift away from the less dark character ruined him, in a way.

Realism isn't a bad thing, either. Part of the beauty of Batman is that he doesn't exist outside the realm of possibility. He's not some hulking green giant. He's a man with determination, will, and some nice fighting skills. The realer the better, IMO.

If I wanted to watch a comic, I'd watch a full-feature cartoon movie.
