The cold war is a bad example, it was faught via proxy to start with and there was little danger that either one was gonna start a war with the other.

U never came face to face in battle (although Stalin did give military support to Korea, if u wanted to do summing that would have been the best time) and never wanted to! this is totally different, this isnt nation states you are fighting, and were not talking ideology, and Bin Ladern aint worried about the economy!
