I'm reading the bible at the moment. I'm searching for the truth, but not only that I want to understand people's beliefs aswell. I'd say read it. At times it seems downright fictional but if you believe god is miraculous and has power over the laws of science (which god obviously would) then that explains this. Very interesting book. I think it's only right that you read it for yourself because you're going to have to do that if you want to know for yourself about it. It can be laborious reading at times (especially the old testament) but it's worth a look. At the end of the day millions/ billions? of people believe it to be the word of the living god.

well some of it is interesting, some of it is garbage imo but it's probably one of the world's great books and at least merits a viewing. it is also one of the most violent, most sexual books you'll ever read (and Christians complain about violence and sex in movies and television, try picking up your own holy book if you want that stuff)

Start with the Book of Ruth. It's short, easy to follow, and there's lots of explosions and car chases to keep you interested.

Well, reading it from start to finish would get pretty tiresome, because the language is tedious.. and some parts just seem to drag on like when "and abraham had this son, and his son had aaron, and aarons son had elijah" (or something like that).

I'd specifically read the Sirach passages, and other parts of the Old Testament.

I say you read it. It has some good moral messages.
