Its a fictional story, it never happend, if he was alive and the story was true he would have bin popped by the police easily, seriously, how the fuck does somebody that stupid ever get away with doing all that.

the guy that made the movie did the old, "based on a true story" trick and it worked.

Anyways, Leatherface is not real. The director decided to put 'based on real events' or whatever at the start just to scare people. While not real Leatherface is loosely based on the serial killer Ed Gein. Not only has the director & producer said this themselves, but it's evident in the movie: Gein used to make furniture out of his victims, had bones lying around as keepsakes etc, etc.

Here we go, my post from 2 weeks ago in reply to Confu...187(whatever his name is) who started the thread & Chronic who named two serial killers who had nothing to do with the movie.

Never heard of either of them being mentioned in conjuction with the movie.

The serial killer who the movie is loosely based on is Eddie Gein.

This is most obvious in the cannibalistic nature of the movie & the pratical use of human body parts - both of whch were inspired by Gein.

Tobe Hooper has said this himself.

There is one character in the flick who is very loosely based on a real person but other than that, nothing.
