here's a cool little brain test i got in an email try it and i'll post the answer and the reasonong behind it later

ALZHEIMERS' EYE TEST

Count every " F" in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXP ERIENCE OF YEARS...

HOW MANY?

ok well initially you're only supposed to view it once and count without going back to read thru it again, so it's not going to work quite as well on here. the correct answer shortly

PS: Edouble, did you get that from reading it the first time, or did you go back and read thru it again?

LOL well i shoud have thought better before posting this. it's too easy to cheat this way. oh well, it has been posted, can't change that now anyway the reasoning...

6, i thought it was 3 until i noticed the "Of", which i skipped the first time for some reason

I read 3 the first time over, saw the reply, went back and saw 6
there is a reason for this. the average human brain does not properly process the word "of." only people of above average intelligence, in other words a genius, will be able to spot all 6 f's on the first reading. 3 is normal and 4 is rare. use this trick on anyone (properly, i might add, i didn't think this thread thru very well  ) and it will almost always work. now, were there any people here who HONESTLY saw 6 f's the first time reading thru it? without actually reading it closely, letter for letter?

fisrt tmie but I was exrta caurfel bescuae I reembemr donig sonmiehtg siamlir a whlie bcak

i bet it would be the same if it was a sentence lookin for a's too. or maybe not

well i've never tried one with a's before but i didn't believe that it was true, that the brain cannot process the word of, until i got 5 other people at my work to try it out, and every one of them saw 3 f's. the only ones they missed were in the word of

lol no

It's that we've trained ourselves to know the language and we don't notice the insignificant words such as "of." We just read through it and understand the meaning without noticing the word itself.

We can "process" the word "of," we just don't need to notice it.

well i didn't mean to say the brain can't process it, buit that it doesn't process it properly. after posting this i did a little reading up on it, and from what i saw and read, there is no other known word (at least in the english language) where this occurs. the words to and at don't cause the same reaction. of course i'm no expert on the subject, i only know what i read, so if there is proof otherwise that this isn't true then i'd like to see it. again, not saying you're wrong, i can only claim to know what i've read

It's not so much how short the word is, but the way the "f" in "of" is pronounced.

one time doin it a while back i went Letter by letter and still missed the of's and then some (rofl)

but yeah might be with one f n 'v' sound..think if it said 'off', would easily catch the 2 or at least one of em :thumb:
