do they hurt, i want to get one when i turn 18 but i hate pain. on a scale from 1-10 how much do they hurt

Depends where on your body you get them done. Different places hurt more. If it's close to bone, it's gonna hurt more than on flesh/muscle.

I have an "S" on my left fore-arm and it didnt hurt at all. My nose-ring actually hurt more than my tattoo lol.

I say go for it! I'm going to get another one soon.

I got mine lower arm because I usually wear short-sleeve shirts on stage and so people can see it. my next one will probably be same place on my other arm.

the pain is odd, its kinda a pleasurable pain. its does hurt, but depending on where on the body, there is different intensity. for example, the arm the was mininal amount, on my neck, it was a bit more intense.

Depending on the design and size depends on the time.....

In my experience, the tattooist does the outline of the tattoo first, then goes on to fill it in with colour. I have 7 tattoos in different places on my arms. Having the outline done hurts more than the colouring in, it also depends on how heavy handed the artist is aswell. I know of some places that charge more if, say you wanted a tattoo on the chest; as it is more uncomfortable for the client, so they say.

Cuz in 10 years time you will have a different idea of whats cool and whats not. What you thinks cool now in years to come there is a good chance youll think is fuckin naff! then your stuck with a stupid looking picture on your arm you dont even like. When i was a tweenie bopper i was gonna get this stupid looking mouse smoking a spliff that said "Stoned again" thank fuck my old man said it was a no no, cuz it really was a corny as fuck looking tatoo.

I've decided to have my tattos covered. I have 2, 1 on my left arm and 1 on the left side of my neck. Im gonna have a dragon going all the way up my left arm up to my neck. The head of the dragon will be on the neck and the tail will start on my left hand.

All I can say is put alot of thought into what you wanna get my dude. There's too many people that rush and get something when it really has no meaning to them. They'll bullshit you and try to say it does, but they aren't kidding anyone. I have plenty of friends that have gotten stupid and/or unmeaningful tattoos. A few even did girlfriends names.. OOPS! I have 1 that isn't great, but it's something I believe, so it works for me. I haven't gotten another yet cause i'm still undecided. And it's been almost 6 years since I got the first one.

Also, do some research on where to go. It's fine if you wanna go somewhere in your state and get it, infact I would expect you to. Just ask around to get some peoples opinions on what place to go to. Anyone that mentions the one I go to.. I say don't go there. Dude's a good artist, but he isn't a great tattooist and he's into drugs and shit. Go to someone who will do a good job on your tatto, even if it costs a little more. It'll be worth it, right?

Hurts more on the chest than on your arm, hurts in the trenches like behind the knee or where the elbow meets, on the side of your ribcage hurts like hell and it can hurt on your stomach depending on how fat u are.

anyhow its gonna hurt one way or another if u cant handle pain well.
