because the old ones suck ass. they will do sequels but they had to start off new for a new generation of kids. plus this movie has been over 10 years in the making. when you look at the amount of money and time spend over the years on many different scripts and the amount of money it could bring in with ticket sales, dvds, toys, clothes, etc. it would just be dumb to drop the project after all this time.

A Superman movie of some sorts has been in the works for ten years, but not specifically this movie. The only one was actually the death of Superman, this one is different as you see.
Why call it Superman Returns and not make it a sequal? If its a new movie, then Superman returns from what? Its like you refrence the original, but totally ignore it. Stupid.

it has been ten years in the making. the original script has been written over and over many times until they got to this point. they call it superman returns because it is re-entroducing it to a new generation. they cant just call the movie superman because there is already a movie by that name. odds are someone else besides the WB owns some of the rights to the original movie and that could bring a lawsuit
Im sorry, but adding Returns to the title would not prevent a law suit.
And DC owns the rights to Superman, so no worries there as they are involved.

I like the title Superman Returns. They can't call it Superman cus there is a film by that name already. They can't just make another sequal either cus Chris Reeds is dead RIP and it's been way too long! Maybe they could have called it Superman Son of Krypton or something...that would of been cool. Apparently Marlon Brando's voice was added digitally, taken from old clips in the WB vaults
