Earlier on today, I was watching the news on a spanish channel, and some news came up about people in the eastern world, I forget which country it was. But these people were holding string about a foot long with metel strips on the end, and they were hitting their backs and they were bleeding.

I was just thinking how stupid can people get, all the shit that goes on in the world, and these people are hurting them selves on purpose.

Surly they must think its stupid too, so why do they do it?

I asumed str8 away it was something to do with religion.

Some dude assasinated the son of Ali and then the followers of this guy who assasinated Alis son now think it was a mistake and hurt themselves as a way of saying sorry and admitting their mistake.

Islam distances itself from this practise.

you are drowning your kids into water and you give them wine when they are 3 years old... some are cutting their johnsons... isn't that taking them to the extreme a little? Their culture may be stupid to you just as yours may be stupid to them!
