Cy-Creek student fatally shot, three in custody

A Cypress Creek High School student was killed Tuesday night when a gun another teen was playing with fired, hitting him in the chest.
Adrian Hinojosa, a ninth-grader, was 15.
"As anyone can imagine, when there is a death of someone this young it impacts everyone,'' said Cy Fair Independent School District spokeswoman Kelli Durham.
Sheriff's deputies said Hinojosa and three other boys, all 16, were inside a pickup truck by an apartment complex on the 12500 block of JFK Boulevard about 9:40 p.m. when one of the boys pulled out the gun to show it to the other students.
Apparently, he thought it was unloaded.
The 16-year-old put the gun to his head, pulled the trigger and nothing happened, according to a KHOU report.
But then the teen pointed the gun at Hinojosa, who was sitting in the backseat, and pulled the trigger again. This time, it fired.
Investigators have not determined where the boy got the gun.
"Young people having access to firearms is an issue that parents, communities and schools are all addressing,'' Durham said.
The boy who pulled the trigger is facing manslaughter charges and investigators are questioning the other boys. None of them returned to school today, she said.
The district is waiting to hear more from investigators before taking any disciplinary action. "We have to get accurate info from law enforcement and then we will respond accordingly,'' Durham said.
Grief counselors were available at the school to comfort students saddened by the loss of their young classmate.
"We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to the parents and family as they grieve the loss of this young man,'' the district said in a statement.
