Ex-football star Stan Collymore has been arrested in Australia.

It followed a row with British backpackers in a nightclub.

Police were called to the Woolshed nightclub in Cairns, Queensland, and ordered him to leave.

But the former Liverpool players refused and was detained.

A Cairns Police spokeswoman said: "A 34-year-old British man was charged with contravening a move on direction after behaving in a disorderly manner.

"He has been released on an undertaking that he will appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, November 4."

According to reports, bouncers at the nightclub threw out a group of British backpackers who had taunted Collymore, before asking him to leave.

Collymore claimed he was an innocent victim and should be allowed to stay.

Former football star Stan Collymore has been fined £84 by an Australian court following a run-in with police outside a nightclub.

The former Liverpool player was arrested in the Queensland city of Cairns earlier this week.

He had argued with police following a row with British backpackers in the Woolshed nightclub.


The 34-year-old pleaded guilty at Cairns Magistrates Court to a charge of contravening a police "move-on" direction.

No conviction was recorded.

Cairns police said Collymore was arrested when he refused to leave the nightclub after police had issued him with a "move on" order.

The Mirror said bouncers had thrown out a group of British backpackers who had taunted Collymore, before asking him to leave as well.

Collymore reportedly insisted to police that he was an innocent victim before he was arrested.

Stan the man is a former football(soccer)star. He had the potential to be one of the best players of his generation, but he blew it cuz he did'nt get on with his teamates or his managers! plus he suffered from depression, slapped women around, and was into doggin! if ya dont know what doggin is, its when freaks go to parks and watch eachother have sex an all that sort of kinky get up!!

If ya ask me stan never loved football, he could have been a great great player, but he never had the dedication.

Stan is a funny fucker. I met him a few times when he played for Bradford or whoever. I met him in Nottingham (or was it Leeds, long time ago). Him and Sharpey used to pull enough of the Nottingham girls. They were good mates.

He is funny as fuck, but has a few Psycho problems. He seems to attract trouble, but always laughs it off. Could've been 1 of the best strikers ever, was in the Rooney mould. But he hated football, infact he hated everything.
