I think the song has a deserving place in an indie rom-com. I can picture a field of flowers close to the woods...they're cuddling...but yeah not song of the year.

What's the criteria anyway?

The production is innovative, synths are incredible, the song is ridiculously well written and constructed, the lyrics and melodies are original and unique, it has mass appeal but indie cred at the same time, there's not much middle ground (ie you love it or hate it, always the mark of a great song), and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since the first time I heard it.

It's a classic.

I read a comment on YouTube for this song, it was from a teenage girl, her comment basically said that she was on the school bus going home from school, this song came on the radio and every single kid on the bus started singing along with it. That is the mark of an extremely good fucking song, there really are not many people that can do that.

When something like that happens it really is the most powerful event. I posted it before when I was talking about the tour, but when my band were playing in Toronto, the day after Michael died, there was like 7 thousand people there, and we opened with a cover of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' and everyone sang along. It was on an outdoor stage in the main square downtown and it was incredibly profound.....of course, I was hurting and grieving very much at the time, as was everyone.....to share that moment with all those people just meant more than you can imagine. The power of music.

Good to know that I'm not the only person that likes this song. Nobody I know likes it, but I'm really feeling it, something about it just resonates.

I really loved the song before I started thinking about the lyrics and the meaning, but now I love it even more. I really relate to it being an insomniac myself.

Never ever song of the year material.

In order to get that status, its gotta have an extreme catchy melody + it must appeal to a huge audience. Something like "Apologize" by OneRepublic.
