Soda vs. Pop

Of the many places I've traveled in North America, generally northern states and Canada call it pop. The rest of the world says Soda.

When I was in Michigan for a couple days I heard people say "pop".. I was at McDonalds and the lady in front of me was like "Could I get 2 blah blah blah and 2 pops" and i was like "WTF".. i wonder how they know what flavor the person wants if they just say "pop"..

does everyone thats votin actually in regular day shit call it 1 or the other? If i had to describe it at one point or somethin i would definitely say soda obviously but when i think about it, i never just random go like 'alright lets get some soda' 'u wanna soda?' it's either; What it is, the name of it, or i say 'U want somethin to drink? *okay* opens the fridge and they pick it out"...?. or 'Lets get some cokes'. man actually i think its 90 percent of the time just ..pepsi, coke. sprite, whatever happens to be. aw one thing i don't say too is 'cola'

soda would be my local dialect on the motherfuckr but i don't use that much.

I was in Florida a few years ago and I ordered a POP at a fastfood joint. The girl at the counter brought me a MOP. true story.

i was at an arbys in kentucky and i asked the person what kind of soda do they serve and the person thought i was asking about salads. we went back and forth a few times then another worker at the arbys told me to ask what kind of pop they serve. she understood that.
