Film & TV So who's real close to playing The Joker in Batman Begins 2?

#1
Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger may have scored the coveted role of The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel, according to press reports in Australia. The actor was reportedly offered the plum part last week and will star in the next installment of the film set to be released in 2008. Oscar-winner Robin Williams was reportedly desperate to land the role and The Da Vinci Code star Paul Bettany was also rumored to be in talks for the part. According to film website Moviehole.net, filmmakers wanted to cast an actor in the part of Batman's adversary who was roughly the same age as 32-year-old star Christian Bale. Ledger is also working with Bale on I'm Not There, a film in which seven actors embody different aspects of musician Bob Dylan's life and work.

I don't think it's a bad choice at all. Happy to see the filmmakers are doing everything right this time, Joker is suppost to be around the same age as Bruce Wayne/Batman, not 51 years old. (Tim Burton)

i just hope they dont make him "the joker" but actually have him play "jack". it would screw up the movie time line if they bring in the joker in a prequel movie

From what i understand, he will be seen as The Joker, not just Jack Napier. but who knows for sure. all i know is that no matter who they got to play the part, it will not be played better than Jack Nicholson did it. end of conversation.

nicholson did a great job. the only joker i have ever seen on video that is as good as nicholson was that 9 min short movie called "batmans dead" (i think ), that joker in that short was crazy as hell and did a great job.

it will be interesting to see how they do this if they do make the joker part of the next film and not just as jack

Interesting. Many people have suggested Adrien Brody... 'cause he wouldn't need much make-up.

ps. Dev and Dog.. you two confuse the shit out of me. :fury:

sometimes it confuses even me

From what i read, Robin Williams had been aggressively going after the part. i think he's still bitter that they chose Jim Carrey over him as The Riddler in Batman Forever (he was up for that part too and apparently was rather pissed that he didn't get it)

Well, Batman Begins wasn't a prequel, it's a re-start. They figured that since the last 2 movies fucked it up so bad, they decided to start all over from scratch and do it right. Not make movies that will sell action figures. Also, at then end of Batman Begins that Joker already existed, so I can see them doing little flashbacks about Napier and eventually him falling into the toxic chemicals that turned him into the Joker.

I think it can be, I love Nicholson as an actor, and it was great seeing him in Joker make-up and playing himself in Joker The Movie.

LOL, shit it happens to me too sometimes. I glance and see the "D" and "187" and I have to double check. Same with Glockmatic. I see "matic" and think for a second if it's me.

I can see Robin Williams play him... Robin always plays an excellent 'bad guy' in movies. Insomnia is a good example at how creepy and fucked up he can be. lol

yeah, like dogmatic said, it's not a prequel. and the joker's name isn't jack napier. that was his name in Batman 89, and burton did that as a tribute to alan napier, the guy who played alfred on TV. the joker's name is not known. in some comics, it's different names, like bob.

so they are remaking all of the batmans? thats sweet
ther not remaking them, storylines, characters, the batmobile, etc will all be different. Ther starting a new batman series of movies, which will probably end up including most of the same vilians as before, since they ar the main vilians, but its goin to be completely different from the other ones. And they hav by far the best batman right now in christian bale

im not exactly sold on Heath Ledger, i cant see him bein a good riddler, but we'll see. and i agree with dvs, no matter who they get they wont be as good as Nicholoson. he was the greatest joker of all time

PS- wouldnt it be great if they had sum of the great classic vilians from the old batman show. Like come on, who out ther didnt love Egghead, or the Bookworm, they wer classics lol:laugh:

Only Johnny Depp could pull off a young psychopathic Joker. A shame they didn't throw the money to nab him for the part.

peace.

Depp would be captivating as always but based on what I've gathered, I doubt he would have jumped on the ship based on the number of zeros on his paycheck. I think he would star in movie for the story and character, or if Tim Burton was the director (haaaa!). It's been said that he agreed to Pirates because he wanted Disney to fund his arthouse projects. But I guess he enjoyed being Jack Sparrow, so he's willing to play the character as long as Disney keeps pumping out good scripts.

Frequently cites Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)) and Edward Scissorhands (1990) as the favorite characters that he has played. - imdb.com

[on director Tim Burton] "He can ask me everything. If he wants me to have sex with an aardvark in one of his next movies, then I will do that." - imdb.com

"Sure, I find it touching, honestly, but awards are not as important to me as when I meet a 10-year-old kid who says, 'I love Captain Jack Sparrow' ... That's real magic for me."

"I'm shy, paranoid, whatever word you want to use. I hate fame. I've done everything I can to avoid it."

How things rate:

Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Salary - $10,000,000.00

Cruise - War of the Worlds (2005)
Salary - % of profit (est. $45,000,000.00)

i had totally forgotten about him. how could i after i went to see pirates of the carribean two weeks ago. he would be hella good, maybe better than nicholson. but as salty said, i dont think he would because he isnt a fame/money actor. and he only did the sequel of pirates of the carribean because he loves playing the character.

johnny depp is a fucking good actor. as for heath ledger... i dont know. cant see him doing it but whatever, maybe he has it in him somewhere.

Johnny Depp might play a good Joker, but hardly a young one considering he's 43 years old lol
