This is so stupid!!! How is this even legal, imagine doing the same to an over weight person? it would be discrimination!
An office worker lost her job after just 45 minutes because she was a smoker.
Sophie Blinham, 21, got a temporary position with Dataflow Communications in Somerset, but had been told to leave after admitting her nicotine habit.
Ms Blinham said she was set to start her administration role when she was quizzed about tobacco.
She said: "I was just about to be shown round the office when I was asked if I smoked.
"I said yes and I was told that was going to be a problem. I asked 'What if I went into town for a cigarette on my lunch break, would that be OK?' but I was told it was not."
Ms Blinham was informed there was no position for her and she left after just 45 minutes in the building.
Dataflow spokesman Ian Murray said it was company policy not to employ smokers.
He told BBC Points West: "We don't want people coming into work smelling of smoke.
"We want healthy employees and we believe a non-smoker is going to be healthier than a smoker."
Another spokesman reportedly told The Mirror: "Legally, we're entitled to do this. It's positive discrimination and we're proud of it."
Simon Clark, of pro-smoking lobby group Forest, said: "What's going to happen next? Are firms going to refuse to employ fat people?
"It is straight-forward discrimination, but it appears smokers are the one minority group with no rights whatsoever."
