In celebration of the 5 Year Anniversary of The Freedom Party, a successful long-running dance party in NYC, come hip-hop veterans have been tapped to ring in the celebration -- among them are Slick Rick and Nice & Smooth.
On Sunday, January 20th, The Freedom Party will celebrate the company's milestone with a birthday blowout at BB King's NYC. The party will pair dance party with performances from Slick Rick, Nice & Smooth, Chubb Rock, Lisa Lisa and other special guests.
The Party's founders, DJ Marc Smooth and DJ Cosi, reminisce about the city's vibrant nightlife in the past as they gear up for the 5 Year mark -- a time they consider the "golden era of nightlife" where people went out to have fun, dance and enjoy themselves.
"As a collective, we missed the days when going to a party didn't depend on who you know to get in, or how much money you had. The best place to be was on the dance floor, not in VIP," said DJ Marc Smooth.
"We decided at that moment that it was time for us to step up and make history. We wanted to provide a fond memory that people could look back on, and give people a place where they could feel FREE! Free to let loose and have fun without pretense. It was our turn to create an event that gave people what those legendary parties gave us. Over the past five years, that is what the Freedom Party has become," added DJ Herbert.
Over the past five years, The Freedom Party has grown its reach beyond New York parties, hosting sold-out crowds each week and welcoming party-goers from as far away as Los Angeles, Japan and Denmark.
The party goes down on January 20 at BB King's in Times Square. Tickets are available online for $35 and at the door for $45.
